- Generally young and eager workforce.
- Flexible working hours and remote work.
- Good for people fresh out of the university.
- Only 28 days of holiday. Most companies in IT offer 30 days.
- No sustainable processes in the departments/interdepartmental
- Let the experts do what they do best and stop interfering. And do hire experts...
- Put more focus on usability - put ideas through the wringer and take a hard look at what you want to implement. Is it really user-friendly or does it just look good? Does it make sense? This will slow down the development process but the customers and the support team will probably appreciate it.
- Try to retain the associates and really listen to them. If people leave after 1-3 years, knowledge is constantly lost and that is a loss for the product.
I experienced a lot of frustration, many people were leaving. Fast-paced environment leaving no room for efficient processes and proper quality assurance. It felt like a fight against windmills.
Buggy product, slow responses to change requests, inconsistent development.
Depends on the department and how much of a workaholic you are. Some departments offer a good work-life balance - others not so much.
Currently a training budget for online learning is available but the timeframe between announcing the initiative and implementing it was very long.
Career opportunities exist but it's undefined how you actually get promoted. There is a competency model but it's more a theoretical thing.
I really loved my team, we had some great people in there. Everybody was always helping each other out. The same was true for some colleagues in other departments though it always depended on the person itself. Some people were not that helpful.
Not many older colleagues.
I will address upper management here, not my direct supervisor. Upper management seems to want to be involved in everything. Problem is they do not have competency in all areas leading to frustration because they do not always listen to the experts they hire.
As mentioned in other reviews, favoritism is strong here. This does not actually promote the best employees but those that know how to sell themselves best. And they do seem to hire aquaintances/friends in roles they have no experience in.
Too much interference by management and other stakeholders, no focus on usabiity in the product leading to some questionable design decisions and creating discontent and extra work for other departments. Too fast paced for proper end results. Constant changes in direction confuse.
Depends. There are regular meetings explaining company results and new developments which is a good thing. At the same time leavers were never communicated beforehand so you always got surprised by leaving messages on the last day of employment. In some cases this did not allow for proper handovers.
All the great social initiatives mentioned in the interview tempting me to start at Xentral were no longer existing once I started or discontinued shortly thereafter.
As for the salary...Let's just say the job I left Xentral for pays way more.
Older or younger people, men or women...I never saw any discrimination here.
My work offered lots of opportunities and I loved the work in itself.
Xentral does a lot to create a great work atmosphere even tho (mostly) everything happens remote. They equip every employee with a budget for home office equipment. Feedback and praisals are part of the company DNA.
I think the image of the company suffered a bit after a difficult economic/ market situation where some employees were also let go. Still, it's a great company where people are happy to be working at!
Thanks to the remote work culture and the open minded people, it's easy to organize private and work life. As everywhere, communication is key. With that being said, there's always the danger of work-life-blending when you're used to working from you. My direct lead always engaged me to take my time off, not to reply at out of office times, etc. but that's also something everyone needs to learn for themself.
As everywhere: there's so much more that could be done. Xentral listened to the demands for more people development measures and implemented a learning tool. There's a leadership training, training for hiring managers and a freshly implemented mentoring tool.
Every role is also sorted into a competency model with career options and feedback cycles.
Xentral is still a start-up - the salary is okay but could be better. Except for a baV and a JobRad, there are no tax optimizations or monetary benefits.
In general, I would say yes but there could be more done, such as social work days as a company project, etc.
It's a people game! The Xentraleers are super helpful and great people to work with.
One needs to admit: the company is very young if you look at the age of the employees. Still, there are coming more and more experienced "elder" colleagues in which I personally appreciate very much. The company is open to older employees as well and I haven't noticed anything negative about including them into the company.
My direct lead is super open, gives constructive feedback on a very high level and encourages her team to question the status quo and deliver high quality work such as she does as well. I couldn't be happier!
There's btw also a leadership training program offered by the company.
Everyone gets the newest technical equipment (from Apple), gets a budget for home office equipment, regular off/ onsites to meet with colleagues and a very nice remote work abroad policy (to work quite an amount of days/ year abroad).
The equipment in the office hubs could be better but as most employees work from home it's understandable that there's not too much budget for the offices.
Communication wise there's happening a lot: bi-weekly company all hands meetings where different departments present topics or evaluate their OKRs. I guess it really depends on the department and teams how the communication continues. I'm lucky to have a very transparent direct lead but I also know that some colleagues struggle with the communication.
There are things that need to be done and things that one is passionate about. Overall, as the company is still developing and taking on speed again, there are many interesting topics that require first time action with building processes around it which makes it super interesting but also stressful from time to time.
The colleagues are nice. The product helps to solve problems for small & medium businesses.
No strategy, constant changes of direction. The founders bring in VPs but then do not let them do their work which results in VPs leaving... Or they fire them because they blame them for their decisions. Within one year 5 VPs left or were kicked out. Now there is only consultants left in the leadership who have never worked in Saas, nor in Ecommerce or ERP before.
To work for this management is so unpleasant and unsatisfying that only shareholders tend to remain employed for an extended period, while almost all others seek alternative opportunities. Employee churn is extremely high which says everything.
Trust employees that you bring in. Remove the founders from the management
Completely chaotic due to priorities that shift almost weekly
Very bad in the market due to overpromising. Insanely high employee churn & firing of people.
Depends on which department you are in...mostly very bad and unhealthy (especially for the mind because you have so many bad experiences)
budget for training but almost no chance to progress
Ok, not bad, not great. Raise not easy
Not really a serious priority
Depends on the team, ppl are cool but a lot are there just because of the remote opportunities
Seemed fair.
Direct leads great but management & founder management is a catastrohy
Offices are ok, not great. What is good is the money for home office
Weekly all hands, communication very much top down
Seemed fair.
Interesting due to growth and many missing things
- not competence team leaders.
- mix of responsibilities of the team positions
- learn to work in agile environment
- before hire new employees, do a research first if you need them, don't just hire devs and after some time fire them cause you hired more than you can afford (last year 2022 they laid 10% of the employees)
they looks good from outside, but inside it's not that good with boring task and bad management
for everytime it's ok, there is no much things to do so there is no work life balance
this is could be the best thing, my team was good and the collaboration with the team with ok when you want help about something
ok, older colleagues are trying to help with the knowledge they have, but that is not helpful most of the time cause legacy code is crazy
team leader always busy most of the time, there is meetings all the day without much values to add .
remote is good (depends on you if you like it or not)
coding tasks are boring cause of the legacy system that make you feel disappointed from the first day
Nothing
Communication and leadership
A Lot of anonymity and no real collaboration above superficiality
Steeply declining after the glamorous phase ist over
No one Cares what you do, really
Abitrary decision making
Below benchmarks
Non-existing
Not really there, a lot of anonymity
Rarely existent
Untrained middle management and c-level. Actual leaders would help tremendously
Anonymous
Only when necessary and as placative as meaningless
Offene und ehrliche Kommunikation, remote working, Teamplay, new work, modernes Umfeld
Dies funktioniert einwandfrei.
Alles in Allem sehr gut.
So verdient kununu Geld.
