Even though low-performers are trying to damage the image, it is still one of the handful tech companies in Austria that you are feeling safe and appreciated

That's ideal. Often low-performers and irresponsible colleagues (ex or current) finds this negative but I think the opposite. People complain just because they had to answer a few slack message at 5-6pm but nobody appreciate the flexibility to work from home and starting to the day at 10-11am.

It is quite flexible and supportive. As long as you want to grow, it is possible and you always get support.

Salaries are above the job market. Growth potential is high and you always feel that your contributions are appreciated. So far, I always received satisfactory raises without doing any drama. That's one of the best part of the company. You really receive what you deserve.

I believe this is highly dependent on the team, however my experience has been valuable, dynamic and fun. There are days that bring a lot of pressure due to the fast changing environment, however everyone is willing to assist at any given moment.
Work-Life-Balance
With the hybrid policy and quite flexible working hours, work-life balance throughout the week is manageable, however it takes some time to set your own priorities and get into the flow. Some days are longer, some days are more relaxed.

As an intern, Bitpanda does cover a satisfying salary that would be enough for one to live independently.

Due to 2 mandatory office days in a week, as a department we do spend quite a bit of time together and get a chance to work closely with one another.
Me, as a more social person, I use the company events to meet more people and it has been great so far. This is fully based on personal preferences and you can adapt as you wish.

The magnitude of tasks has allowed me to grow in the past months like I would not in some companies for years. Besides standard daily tasks, there are always new things coming in - which also allowed me to test my grounds and see what I am the most interested in.

I understand what my manager needs from me, and I can also rely on him to help resolve obstacles. Besides, the cross-team collaboration in engineering is excellent.

This fast-paced environment, with deadlines, can also lead to a heavy workload. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether they want that. Internal shares are also very virtual.

Two audiences this go out to. Management and HR.
To HR: This company is so proud to be Austrian/European while forgoing any normal HR business practices that comes with that. HR is condescending, and speaks of the company like it's a cult. They want you to beleive the "mission" and be hyped and ready to "own your career" while not actually letting you rise in career. No salary bands, no clear path for careers...the yearly meetings about salary increases get pushed back or when they happen, feel angry and tense. People get laid off or fired and have to beg for information or guidance.
And to management: Start listening to your people and stop the toxic nonsense. Whilst everyone understands the whole startup cultures, this is an example of the blind leading the blind. Young kids and unexperienced people leading departments and projects with 0 experience in that field, only to then laying off the experts for no reasons. Management needs to start being held accountable when things fail, and not the people who deliver, while gaslighting employees, disrespecting them, making them work weekends/nights over such minute tasks....list goes on and on.

Was great at one point, after all the layoff chaos...the entire Austria knows about Bitpanda and knows how bad it is here. It became shameful to say you worked there.

Big laugh here. Bitpanda prides itself in being flexible employer....important to note that flexible is all about the flexibility they need from you. Sure, it'll be fine to go pick up your kids from school...but if you are on holiday it is absolutely normal that people will call you, tag you in things and send you messages. I have been told "we'll need you this weekend" and had to work every day of the weekend for initiatives that were so insignificant. Holiday, evenings, life....not respected in general. If you leave the office a bit earlier, people stare. Flexible for Bitpanda. Never you.

"Own your impact" what does this mean? Nobody manages to get this slogan to life because it is empty gibberish. Because of this, you will be denied any change/career path because of lacking impact

Salary is a joke for the mental gymnastics one has to go through and "flexibility" you have to have. If you have been at company longer, you will stay at the same salary forever...even if you changed resposnibilities and job roles....they don't care and will make you wait until you raisin up before changing.

Once upon a time. I had an interesting job, but was often pushed into menial tasks just for the sake of someone pushing it on me to be important. This the reason I go. I know from other departments that hardworking professionals were forced to do HR work like plan christmas parties, host bigger parties and order cakes for management events!! Adults treated like unpaid interns often.

Other than everything mentioned above, the treatment of their ex colleagues after laying them off. No support whatsoever through the whole off boarding process, missing payments for remaining vacation days. And after chasing the company for missing payments/information due to their failings, you’re ghosted, need to double text and get no transparency at all. Very untrustworthy behaviour.

HR needs to step up and really care about the people working in this company or else it will be impossible to hire talent anymore. The whole city of Vienna knows about Bitpanda’s bad treatment of their workforce and people get scared off. Leadership needs to evaluate their leaderships skills.

In my department, people really cared about each other and I worked with the most amazing colleagues. In the beginning there was also a big belief in the mission and values of the company, it was almost cult-like. Bitpanda and their leadership destroyed this completely the moment they felt pressure from
investors, the mission got overturned and people cannot identify with it anymore.

You’re expected to be reachable 24/7 WITHOUT GETTING PAID FOR OVERTIME. It’s not even that the workload is too big, people just expect you to be there anytime they could need something from you. “Flexible” working hours means - be flexible whenever THEY want you to. Your own flexibility is deprioritised.

No support with this. If you start a job here, be sure you want to live with the exact same position for quite some time without a real chance to change it, even with exceptional performance (which isn’t measured)

Depends on your department and if your leadership is fighting for it. Ours wasn’t, a yearly salary negotiation is basically non-existent. They don’t do Inflation adjustments, everything is “performance based” but they never evaluate your performance or define actual goals, so there is no way to judge it anyways.

In every level of leadership there is lack of experience (the oldest leaders in bitpanda are in their mid-thirties) and lack of acknowledging their mistakes and areas of improvement. I’ve never felt more disrespected than by the behaviour of some of Bitpanda’s leadership. They don’t only perceive you as a number, they will make you feel it, too.

Bitpanda has no flexible working hours. It is flexible for them, because in the end you have to be available and reachable until late at night and during holidays. Holidays are impossible to take because there are not enough colleagues who would jump in for you. It does not appear good if you leave work on time and dont work overhours (you do not get paid for them) - they do not respect that you want to have time for friends and family. You have to make sure to always work more than your colleagues to make a good impression, a promotion is impossible to get though, because they tend to hire from the outside for new positions. Considering how many hours you work and have to be reachable and available the salary is a joke, and they are not easy with a raise. Also, knowing that everyone gets a different income, tends to increase insecurity.
I met some nice colleagues, but many are very impolite, there is no "friendly atmosphere", and at lot of team leaders or the hierarchy make your everyday life hell and have no abilties to lead a team. The company is a mess, they have no understandable hierarchies or structure.
I would strongly recommend you to look for a different company!
