Flexible working hours and the option to work from home or the office provide valuable flexibility. The office is well-equipped with quality business equipment. Benefits are good when the company is financially stable, although there have been some challenges recently.
Management lacked professionalism at times, with an excessive number of managerial roles. There appeared to be a culture of favoritism, and salary payments were occasionally delayed.
Improvements in company performance could be achieved with changes in top management. Currently, leadership appears to struggle with providing clear direction and effective results. Additionally, the high number of managerial roles within teams may not be necessary and could strain financial resources.
Timely salary payments are essential, and delays attributed to “start-up” challenges are not sustainable over the long term.
I was fortunate to work with a great team, and the primary source of stress was related to work pressure. This is common in growing companies, where understaffing can lead to ongoing deadline challenges.
The company experience was positive initially, but over time, growing employee dissatisfaction became apparent.
Despite a significant workload, micromanagement was minimal, allowing me the flexibility to attend to personal matters during working hours, such as doctor appointments. The option to work from home or the office provided a valuable hybrid experience, and in certain cases, working from another country was permitted. Overall, I can praise the company for its flexible work policies.
There are opportunities to develop professional skills; however, salary increases do not necessarily follow. Additionally, funded training programs appear to be primarily accessible to a select group within the company.
There appeared to be significant discrepancies in salary levels, with some employees receiving substantially higher compensation than others. Additionally, salary increases seemed to be awarded primarily to those favored by top management.
The management structure is quite hierarchical, with clear distinctions between managers and other employees. This can create pressure to comply fully with managers’ requests, including working overtime, sometimes at the expense of personal well-being. I believe a more balanced approach that respects employees’ health and encourages open communication would benefit the workplace culture.
I primarily worked with a younger team, so I have limited perspective on this topic. However, I did not observe any instances of discrimination during my time at the company.
Overall, the work was rewarding but often demanding, especially given the team’s understaffing. This resulted in employees frequently handling additional workloads. While the company was growing, budget constraints limited new hires, which contributed to the increased pressure on existing staff. I also observed that salary increases and promotions tended to favor certain employees, while others took on extra responsibilities without corresponding compensation. This created a perception of inequality within the team.
The office was well-equipped with quality business equipment, and the availability of complimentary drinks and snacks made the workdays more enjoyable. Having free company parking in central Köln was also a significant convenience.
One area for improvement in management is communication, particularly regarding salary payments. Informing employees on the last day of the month that their salary will be delayed is unprofessional and demonstrates a lack of consideration for staff, especially those who may be more financially vulnerable.
Overall, the company was a positive experience. I believe increasing female representation in management could enhance both the company’s image and employee satisfaction. Effective leadership includes empathy, which I felt was an area for improvement. I hope to see progress in this regard in the future.
Although the systems were complex, the work was engaging and contributed significantly to my professional growth. I have no negative remarks in this regard.
Flexible working hours, an international environment, and work phone
Firing employees during their probation period, with some not even having worked a full month, was such a terrible thing to do
Proper planning is key: grow slowly but consistently, reasonably, and sustainably. Frequent salary reviews are important, and don’t toy with people’s lives.
I can’t complain about that. I had flexible hours and could structure my work in a way that didn’t affect my personal life. I was mostly working from home, which made it easier to balance everything
The company offered exposure to a lot of dynamic projects, which provided some career growth. However, there were no special programs, so you had to figure out your career path on your own and train yourself
I had the same salary for a long time and never received a raise. New employees were being paid more, while those of us who had been there longer stayed the same. On top of that, older employees were asked to take salary cuts, while top management and their close colleagues continued to pay themselves large salaries
I had a great experience with my primary team. They were some of the best and most intelligent minds I’ve worked with. We shared amazing moments that I’ll always cherish, including great offsite events and lots of fun. With the other teams and external agencies after that, it wasn’t as great. The environment became tense, focused solely on work, and frequent organizational changes didn’t help improve the situation
There were quarterly updates to inform employees about the company’s performance, but most of them felt like sugarcoating and false representations. One minute, we were hearing about the company’s success, and the next minute, layoffs were announced
This company is a classic example of how poor leadership can destroy what could have been a promising workplace. The few remaining positives—like trust-based hours and decent equipment—are not enough to make up for the deeper issues. Those who stay do so out of convenience, not loyalty. The company might still function, but it’s running on borrowed time.
It’s clear that the previous review was likely written by management or someone with close ties to them. It’s disappointing and somewhat embarrassing that such an obvious attempt to shape the company’s image was made, which only highlights the growing gap between what’s being said and what’s actually happening on the ground.
Among the few colleagues who haven’t resigned (yet), the atmosphere is still somewhat positive. The only remaining drive comes from shared frustration rather than shared vision.
External partners are starting to notice that things aren’t quite right. While management continues to ignore the warning signs, the damage to the company’s reputation has already been done within the industry.
Trust-based working hours are one of the few reasons employees are still holding on.
Internal promotions are decided behind closed doors. If you're well-connected, opportunities come your way; if not, you’ll be overlooked. Instead of rewarding long-term employees with well-deserved raises, management attracts new hires with higher salaries than those in existing positions.
Nothing to be excited about. The company offers standard benefits, but they feel disconnected from what employees actually need or want.
The company treats sustainability and social impact as box-ticking rather than real priorities.
While the company struggles, the office gossip is thriving. The latest missteps of the leadership team provide an endless source of tragic entertainment. The one thing that unites the team is sshared disbelief at how badly things are handled.
Not explicitly negative, but also not actively valued. older staff receive little recognition or opportunity.
Leadership here is defined by a lack of social competence. Proper leadership training might help, but only if management recognizes that they actually need it.
There was a time when there was a budget for fun activities and an engaging office setup which was well organised. That era is long gone. Cost-cutting measures have stripped away anything that once made the workplace enjoyable.
The equipment is modern and functional, and the IT department does an excellent job keeping everything running smoothly.
Transparency is non-existent. Important information—like salary delays—come at the very last moment, if at all.
Employees have to rely on incomplete information and guesses because management is unclear and avoids taking responsibility.
It’s still a man’s world here, but strong, intelligent women hold their ground.
The team itself is open-minded and welcoming to everyone.
Culturally, the company is quite diverse, with employees from many different nationalities and backgrounds.
If you take the initiative, you can carve out interesting projects for yourself - just as long as they don’t require a budget.
Going the american way of investment and trying to unleash the IoT world globally, finally!! As this will only work with aggressive pricing in the first place, the 2nd Business Model will deliver suistainable growth. It is definely worth to invest into 1nce!
VSOPs for employees.
Fighting culture against former Investors and Operators. Never bite the hand that feeds you...
Adjustment in the Management needed, definetly. Maybe more women to overcome the culture of "fighting with investors"...this way was too toxic, but could be als handled by a more empathic man.
It is true that 1nce is in a difficult situation, however which Start-Up wouldn't be in case their main Investor starts to drop off. The main fault of the Management was not to have plan B right in place...which is now to be adjusted and hopefully successful. Anyway, when the main investor was pumping in money, no complainments where heard by staff members although the real situation wasn't different. So the truth is always anywhere in the middle.
It is a tough situation right now to get through and not quitting and complaining is a question for everybody on their own, as 1nce has still huge potential with their current business to be a (maybe THE only one effordable) global connectivity provider and especially their upcoming business.
See the whole picture. 1nce provided effordable connectivity all other the world and will continue!
Home Office and flexible work 100% as we are a global company. However , Management should pay more attention and respect to the diffefent timezones
Pending on everybodys own push and effort.
Frankly, high bandwith and i can understand somebodys frustration.
We provide connectivity, should not have a huge CO2 footprint at all. Moreover, nothing special.
Great colleagues, no question about that. One star less, as it may not be helpful to damage reputation on Kununu, as frustration (which may be reasonable currently) overplays a fair assesment imo.
Too young myself, so i can't really judge.
Mine is great, i can understand that for some colleagues this may be / feel different.
Home Office positive. Office in Riga great. Office in Cologne like a bunker (but hey that's Cologne), but equipment is a good standard.
Communication Iteration is ok, but the how is a big question. One CEO misses to have the right feeling when it is time to stop storytelling.
More women! Especially in the leadership...and i am saying this as a man.
Totallly! Compared to big corporates your work has a direct impact on results of the company. Moreover, 2nd Business upcoming will change the IoT world massively.
Home Office, fun people to work with, good old times when we used to get paid on time
C level.
Invest in your employees. 26 days of vacation is the bare minimum and stop arguing that only because some people don’t use all of their vacation days that it is not necessary to increase vacation days.
Start working on the basic structure - management tried building a house starting with the roof and is wondering now why it’s not standing. Rethink your sales structure, negotiate your contracts with vendors better and stop blaming third parties for your own mistakes.
Please pay salaries on time and don’t ever ask employees again to reduce their salaries. People have lost trust in management and you need regain their trust when you want to keep running this business with them. You need to do better!
The team spirit is great. Everyone is super nice and supportive. However every team fights on its own. People are overworked and tired. Motivation is decreasing across the teams. Especially since everyone started noticing that 1nce is struggling and management is trying desperately to keep everything going. Management made comments how it is a “privilege” to be working for 1nce. I guess it is also a privilege to get paid for your work. It would be really surprising to me if there is anyone left working for 1nce as people are super frustrated.
C-level thinks we are the next big unicorn. But we as employees know that unicorns only exist in fairytales.
Due to the staff shortage the workload is huge. You need to take care of yourself. No one will tell you to take time off.
If you get along with your boss you will make it. If you stay close to Management and keep them happy it is not so much about talent and you will make it even further.
Salary is higher than usual if you were smart during negotiations. Salary ranges are quite high for the same job and there are no standardized budgets. Also you need to perform constantly and I would say working more than 40 hours is expected. So if you calculate your hourly rate you are probably being ripped off. Getting raises is nearly impossible.
Nothing special to mention. We do recycle paper in cologne. Ha ha
Again. Great team. Dark humor keeps us alive.
The fish rots from the head down. Management should be replaced but I am afraid it is already too late.
Equipment is pretty standard. Laptop, mobile phone, headset. In the office two screens, adjustable desk. Snacks & drinks available at office.
Home office 100% but only because no one gives a shit from where you work as long as you do your job.
Bonus points for free urban sports club membership.
The program “work around the globe” is frozen due to budget cuts.
Lame Christmas party - no one from management was there.
Everything used to be great. Seriously. We used to have lunch and breakfast days at the office, summer & Xmas parties. Teamevens, work around the globe, etc. but since mid 2024 things went down hill.
Communication within in the team is great. But don’t get me started on communication with management.
Gossip works really well and I think the management is not aware how well it works. News are spreading like wildfire. When management announces news it is not really news any more. Also management keeps telling lies about how well everything is going when the numbers are in fact telling a different story. Every time we are being told sales numbers are going up and we are doing amazing when at the same time we are having massive budget cuts and people are being laid off.
Yeah. I mean… it’s not 50/50 women/men. So I guess there is room for improvement. All the women that have made it here are strong and have learnt to deal with male incompetence.
Everything is very interesting. Things are happening very fast and not everyone is capable to deal with all of these quick changes. One moment you are working on one task and the next minute you start a new project - probably another reason why this company is not performing - too many meetings & management making new decisions and changing directions too often. However if you are able to keep up with the workload you will be able to climb the career ladder quickly.
The brand recognition that we have built. The fast pace, the opportunity to grow beyond, and the freedom to get your work done and be part of something!
There is, of course, always room to get things better. Changing step by step from a rapid growth startup into a more structured business, building processes, and changing the organization, team, and priorities is never easy. But its part of the startup life. So keep working on it and dont stop moving and we will be good!
Rapid growth and expansion. Freedom to take decisions and initiative. You don't get stopped for good ideas, and you will get challenged by others if the idea has risks.
That is the kind of work culture that pushes you to your limits while allowing you to develop new skills and grow beyond your own capabilities.
It's, of course, not for everyone - but if you are looking for a successful Startup and to be part of a well-established Brand, then this is for you.
The 1NCE Brand is meanwhile widely known in our industry. People respect it, and people recognize it. That is a true image and a brand I am proud to represent.
Everyone will have their own definition of what a good work-life balance means. For me, 1NCE is giving me the balance I need to combine family and private life with work. Flexibility to do your work from nearly every corner of the world. Being able to decide when you work and when you dont is something I have not seen in other companies in the past. This is a major plus as I can balance personal and work. Of course, being a global company also sometimes means odd hours, but being able to sleep in late after a late-night call is nothing you will ever hear negative feedback about within 1NCE. That is true balance for me.
1NCE has given me tremendous and massive personal growth! I have learned more working for 1NCE than I would have been able to learn in nearly any other environment.
At 1NCE you learn for life!
The salary is very competitive and well structured while keeping it simple. When you grow and take more responsibility, it's being reviewed.
Benchmarking yourself to others outside of 1NCE can easily be done, and that input is openly discussed with your leaders to help review it. If you bring it up, I have not seen it that there is no solution for it.
While 1NCE might not be a "Socially active" company running our services on the Cloud, being able to reduce plastic waste by offering smaller size SIM cards and being able to reduce our Carbon footprint thanks to our partner AWS is showing that we take environmental safety into our focus while keeping our own footprint as small as it can be.
A lot of people consider "being like a family" as something negative. I personally dont. I know I can trust my peers. I know everyone is pulling in the same direction, and working together is key to success. The success of 1NCE has shown that it works.
Of course, as it's usual in high-performing Startups, you will find a higher degree of individual contributors as everyone is an absolute expert in their own field - but no one will ever say no if you ask for help.
1NCE has people from all ages working together. While we might not have any "Senior in Life" people working with old and young is seamless and hand in hand.
But let's be clear - the Startup life is clearly attracting more of the younger generations, and that's totally normal.
I get direction, vision, and purpose from my Leadership. No one will give you a detailed breakdown of your tasks, which is the freedom you get. So you control the path while the target is clear. This means true Leadership, and I am very lucky to have found mentors within 1NCE who I can look up to, respect, and learn from.
I have a laptop, a phone, and everything I need to get my work done. I have access to modern Tools, AI Copilots, and anything else that makes my day-to-day easy.
I can work from wherever in the world I want to and what ever makes sense.
So clearly, it's a check.
Communication works as well as it can be expected in a rapidly growing Startup. Everyone who has experienced it before will know what I mean. Of course, it can't be compared with a traditional Enterprise, so yes, sometimes things get lost. And there is always room to make it better. But everyone is always able to get the information they need to know to be successful in their area.
1NCE is international. We are divers. We are global. So I cant say anything negative here.
The nature of 1NCE and our rapid international expansion will make this one very obvious -> Every day is different; it never gets boring, and there is always the next challenge to solve. 1NCE, for me, is the true definition of what it means to be challenged day in and out.
Pay and treat the people that shaped and made the company fair and equal. Stop cutting at the bottom where work is done, cut at the top. Get a red line into the path of management with less decision makers and a clear path on how to get cash positive.
Was very good early on but it is getting worse day by day. In the early days, people that were hired on all levels were matched to the culture of the company. Since the company has been refocuses on US style management, things have gone bad very fast.
Was good in early days, has declined in the last years with rotation in management and more US based C-Lebel management. Var bad staring with other companies as well.
26 days of vacation while expecting 24/7 work is normal here and pushes many people near to burnout.
Very limited budget for this, in house ok, but no money for external training.
Salary is below market average for most positions, only higher up get raises and adjustments. No raise in the last 4 years despite the inflation and cost of living increase. Salaries of new joiners are much higher compared to existing people at the company. Not very fair pay policy as there are a lot of imbalanced salaries. Salary payments have been inconsistent with timing and recently not being payed at all.
Announcing salary not getting payed on last day of month in a meeting with out written statement and leaving families hanging ist not very social.
Only thing that keeps many people at the company.
Very little respect towards more senior people and their ideas especially from management.
Some are good but general top management is too often bild for what is going on and lead the company to the current state.
IT is trying hard with the limited budget they have and do a good job, otherwise it is far below average. Company only interested in what way is the cheapest for them. Let people work from home so we can save money on the office but do not offer home office contracts or compensation at all.
Top down communication and transparency is missing. Important decisions are not communicated or only minutes before.
Depends on the team but not in the hiring process.
You have too look for your own tasks as there is no redline or any rational behind steering or path to go. It changes week by week without a plan b as backup.
Unfortunately, all the good things are gone and with 48% of the workforce gone, it's not nice
Everything good about the employer disappeared a year ago and then continued to bleed out
Urgently replace the entire upper management including c-level
There is no good working atmosphere anymore; everyone is leaving the sinking ship
It's getting worse and worse
With 26 days of vacation far below standard
unavailable
There is no salary increase here now, even below the standard. Let's hope that it will come at all
unavailable
Everyone knows that they will leave
Meanwhile, old colleagues are being torn down in front of the assembled team
The management here is awful and needs to be replaced from the very top
Nowadays, this is irrelevant
There is no communication anymore and when there is communication, people look down on you arrogantly
If there are no more tasks, there are no more interesting tasks
I regret to say that my experience with 1nce has been quite disappointing. The company has consistently failed to meet its sales targets, which has led to significant financial strain. High operational costs have only exacerbated the situation, making it difficult for the company to stay afloat.
Unfortunately, the management team has made a series of poor decisions that have further hindered the company's performance. These missteps have not only affected the company's financial health but have also led to a toxic work environment. Many employees have been laid off, and a significant number have chosen to resign due to the instability and uncertainty surrounding the company's future.
So verdient kununu Geld.
