- Remote work setup works pretty well.
- Provided computer equipment is good.
- Mature development environment, ops, and programming languages.
- Safety of the user data taken seriously.
- Lots of smart people around you.
- Not profitable, not even close to it, and will probably promise you they're about to in a month or so. They just need to strike one more deal this time — yeah, not a lot of honesty going on there as you see.
- Unnecessarily big and intrusive middle management.
- The actions of the C-level executives in this company remain largely unknown to the rest of the organization, which can be quite funny. Be careful with them though. They might recommend you leave the company if you ask them anything more provocative.
- A layoff every two years. Three of them since COVID, probably more than the number of on-sites you might ever have with your team.
- The product doesn’t know where to go. They don't have plans, at all, just intrusive thoughts, maybe. It's not even funny at this point.
- Forget about salary raises, the company is shrinking every year.
I used to love the app and I think it has a great purpose. However, I’m afraid that the company is not going to be successful or profitable in the short or long run. I think it would be best if the company was sold as soon as possible and everyone who works there was given a fair chance to find a new job. There are many talented and hardworking people in this company, many of whom are immigrants, married with children, and so on. None of them deserve to be treated like this. I didn't deserve it.
They did 3 layoffs during 4 years: one in 2020, one in 2022 and recently in 2024. Nightmare!
the working atmosphere is fine as you can work from home
i see they provided good equipment for working
the salary is acceptable. But they hired you and then put you in a situation of layoff
Colleagues and provided equipment. The product (!) and the dedication to make it even better. Flexibility to work from home.
Chaos. Chaos everywhere. A 12 year old company that behaves like a recently founded start up. No clear strategy (long term), everchanging goals, responsibilities and expectations. Results are super high workload and confusion in every regard.
Communication is among the worst I've ever seen. One of the many results of incompetent/absent management.
Settle on a vision for the next X years. Decide long term, stick to it. Instead of introducing new policies, tools, whatever, reduce what you already have and maximize usefulness. Care for your people and try to make it look authentic.
Fairly solid since working from home. Colleagues tend to be very engaged and in it for change. Superiors barely care.
Immensely suffered during the two layoffs. Many of those that weren't laid off lost faith and left. A shell of it's former self. I've heard the term "a stain on your CV".
Vacation policies are great, you can take time off whenever you need/want to. Working hours are far more than agreed on if you want to keep up with your workload. When mentioned, it's promised that this will be fixed but it won't be any time soon. Aloha burnout.
Cost saving measures hit hard. No more spending unless "business critical".
One of the better parts of working here. Most colleagues are a joy to work with. Many bright minds that come up with great ideas/solutions.
Not exactly great. You'll gain extra responsibility without the career and salary upgrade.
Decisions are made left and right, but nobody really knows why. Most goals feel accomplishable but are scrapped shortly after for even shinier goals. If you're lucky you get some say in the decisions that affect you.
You'll get everything you need to do your job. Very top-of-the-line equipment to use and a full home office setup including everything you could wish for.
Despite recent efforts, this is probably still the biggest issue at Ada and has always been. Important communication is drowned in dozens of channels, communication strategies change every few months.
You'll get a fair salary, nothing extraordinary, but it'll do. It will usually be on time, but not always the correct sum. Apart from salary, not much they offer.
I believe this is also one of Ada's strong(er) suits. Apart from gender, there's clearly favourites that will get better treatment than others, though.
Very lacking. While you have some say on what to work on and when, you will simply not have the time to work on interesting tasks.
Nice colleagues (most of them), free drinks.
Management, strategy, revenue, vision.
After the layoffs back in 2020 the founders put together a new management team. The result of their work is layoffs 2022. I really question whether they have any idea what they were doing, especially when it comes to revenue and product development.
If you want to avoid disappointment, don't apply there.
Attend a course how to lead a company.
nothing!
I should say, if you choose Ada to work for, you can be sure, you made a big mistake in your career path. This company has no clear strategy. They change every second their direction! What does it mean? No real revenue for the company. What's the solution to that? Let's lay off some employees randomly! They have recently laid off more than 50 employees and many contractors. I heard this happened also early 2020. Back then, they also laid off around 50 ppl. An unstable company and no clear career path for the employees. Ah, there are some exceptions to that: If you are loud, you get promoted...But what happens if you are good at work? you can count on being on the next hit-list of the company! They grow so fast just for showing off in the industry. Look we are growing, we are doing good!
Pst! every 2 years we are firing people! And that's normal... because the economic recession is coming, blah blah!
No! you didn't plan the growth properly. They confessed that they grew too fast and not well planned.. but who suffers from this? The poor laid-off people!
My friend, do yourself a favor and stay away from them!
Close your company! or sell it somebody who can manage an organisation!
concentrate on what is important today and in the Foreseeable future (1 -2 Years)
Do not take Processes off Company Polcies just because you can and will!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Find the culture and people that care (if they are responsible for a team)
If you are lucky and do not get micromanaged than its pretty nice!
but bare in mind there is no culture!
Well i think its quite frankly declining. Don't get me wrong here. the Idea is fantastic. But the decision making and people are not so fantastic.
its eat or get eaten mentality in a lot of teams!
Was gud but is now extremely bad for certain team - also splitting up a team and forcing only one half into the Office is a VERY nice culture!
Was a 4, now not anymore (for everyone that loves Shakespeare)
Due to cost and saving a lot of Opportunities were Cut
its actually 4 stars if the fact, that the company FORCES Co workers to hide IMPORTANT INFORMATION away from only certain Employees, is not taken into account
Feel like either the leadership team and (flat hierarchies) your supervisor are ignoring the Problems in the present. They give you a feeling of caring for you requests and Problems!
Nice you get a Laptop and peripherals! but again the Non existing culture!
There Is NONE! and if there is, its broken. there is basically no cross team clear Communication!!
if something goes wrong its never someones (own) fault. No clear structure behind decision making (looks like Company interest is based on the Top Investor - even if that is the worst path possible)
Communication between Managers and workers is fine to say at best
a lot of thing are kept away from an employee (from managers and team members all together!!)
a Lot of context switching and no clarification!
Clear favoritism in every Level - from team to C -level
For the Most part quite adverse but not challenging! mor of like 2,5 Stars!
Money Management!
very Very bad hiring spree with no improvement in Company Performance / culture!
Decision changing all the Time no clear goal in mind
Depends on the Team and Performance
Was nice until a part were forced to come back to the Office - although i didn't mind it it was bad for some co workers!
there are possibilities to improve but due to Poor Money management some of it had been cut!
Again Good if you can be performant in their eyes - if not they will drop you
A lot of last minute Mind changing due to pressure from Above!
no need to think about the feeling of others!
Like always there are employees you will like and some you won't
Again depends on the team - C -level Communication is somewhat spongy without a clear goal in mind
Team Communication is also bad
Never really felt like a Part of something as the Manager had clear favorites!
Really nice working environment. Nice office and nice colleagues.
Homeoffice is always possible, working from abroad for several months.
Constantly improving.
Amazing team. Friendly, constructive and respectful.
Respectful and motivating leaders. Lot of growth initiatives from the people team available.
Important and high valued topic at Ada
The dedication to quality and user experience amongst the engineers, designers, POs.. This is truly exceptional and feels great for like-minded individuals.
Possibility to work from home, office, or hybrid.
The workload of course depends on team/projects. My experience so far is - cycles of utter chaos, after which come promises of improvement. Despite it's size, the company still behaves as a struggling startup, signing contracts and setting deadlines without having clarity on requirements or consulting the engineers. These in turn feel pressured to work extra hours, have less breaks, to not take holidays (sometimes also can't get approval), because there are always urgent business needs. A bonus - deadlines set even during public holidays. Because why not?
+ yearly reviews
- no time for self-development, work not technically challenging
The leadership seems to be busy with long term vision, ignoring the problems in the present.
The mission is great, technical challenges are interesting, Ada is trying very hard to get better
Unclear business goal, changing goals
More ambitious, clearer business goals, less distractions
Good managers, nice atmosphere, at times a bit too cuddly.
I got the feeling that people are complaining more than necessary. Could be a German thing though.
Great vacation days, a lot of effort to create a manageable work load and support for my family needs. Flexible hours.
From what I have seen, trainings are offered and paid for. Have seen several developers getting the GCP training for example.
Good salaries, given the workload very adequate. Several benefits available (pension fund etc)
No data on environmental aspects. Social aspects are even part of the product. The product is designed and translated to be used in countries with a suboptimal medical system.
Friendly and professional. Sometimes a bit distrustful, honest feedback only anonymous or via a third person.
I guess I am the older co-worker, people are nice to me.
So far, my managers were all great. If anything, the goals I have received were too unambitious.
Good hardware, great desks and chairs, full time working from home possible.
Regular communication about the state of the company and my performance, plenty of feedback.
Hard to judge as a white man. I have not observed anything concerning.
Ada is in a very interesting situation, transitioning from a startup and startup-culture to a larger corporation. A lot of interesting work is available to pick up. Sometimes, the expectation is to drive those changes and tasks yourself.
So verdient kununu Geld.
