Super Kollegen und immer was los.
Mega!
The incredible people & the great team events.
And that everyone from intern to Head-of is treated with respect.
No transparent salaries, a lack of internal career options
Publish salary ranges. Improve the communication with the mother company. Work on talent retention.
AMORELIE went through an M&A with the EQOM group in late 2021/early 2022. Currently we're in a bit of an in-between stage: we're not standing in front of a shambles anymore but we're also not yet back in calm-flow-mode again.
The current situation means that a lot is open for discussion, you can build your own position to some extent, and proactivity and entrepreneurial spirit is warmly welcomed.
If you love start-ups, are hands-on and open for new challenges and quick developments and prefer them over complete stability and business-as-usual, I can recommend AMORELIE.
The brand has a great reputation despite some internal struggles in the past.
And also the values lived internally are great - most employees came for the brand and stayed for the values.
Work-life-balance is great. Since we went to restructuring at times and some positions were merged, it went up at some point but as soon as I pointed it out to my manager, she did a great job reducing my workload.
AMORELIE also allows you to take unpaid leave once you've used up your vacation days, so you can make sure to get the rest you need.
Due to the M&A, everything is quite agile and fluid at the moment, so some people also seized the moment and were promoted - so there are definitely some chances if you look out for them.
Yet in general, career perspectives could be improved. I sometimes feel that especially the mother company EQOM is a bit sluggish when it comes to talent retention. I saw people leaving because they felt they could develop further somewhere else or because they weren't given a suitable offer in time.
Also, more external trainings could be offered.
The management is aware of all this, so I hope it will improve soon.
The salary is alrighty-ish but obviously could be higher... Berlin start-up life I guess.
I would also appreciate if there was more transparency regarding salaries. The contract forbids you to talk about the salary with your colleagues. I think if AMORELIE had nothing to hide this would not have been necessary. This way it feels a bit that what you earn doesn't depend on what you do but on how skilled you are at negotiating.
Selling sextoys wrapped in - mostly - plastic ... could be better I guess but it's the hygiene standards of the industry. For those climate-friendly vegans: there is usually oatmilk in the fridge and vegan food options on team events.
If there'd one thing about AMORELIE I want to point out it's the team:
I never came across so many dedicated, considerate, honest, open-minded and lovely souls like at AMORELIE. This holds especially true for those that are still here: everyone is really looking out for one another, from leadership to interns and working students.
You really can bring in your personality and no one judges you for being different - it's embraced. Everyone is also really understanding if one faces mental health issues or has a hard time at some point - no judgment there. No one talks you down.
It may be the fact that having to deal with sextoys the entire day makes you more open in other senses as well or attracts a certain clientele but if there is one thing that really sets AMORELIE apart from any other company I've ever seen it's its people <3
Also, the team events are frequently LEGENDARY!
The oldest colleagues are around 40 I believe - but other than that I believe that age does not play a role at AMORELIE as long as you share the team spirit!
What I wrote about the team is true for my manager as well. I always felt seen, acknowledged and valued. I also received regular advice from her so I felt I could develop personally and professionally.
Some supplies in the office are a bit old-fashioned (no high tech height-adjustable desks) but it's not too bad. The current office is a bit small but I heard that there should be a new larger office soon.
AMORELIE also allows you to mostly work from home if you prefer this and compensates you monthly for this.
Since the leadership change a few months ago (from an external M&A advisor to two directors who have worked for AMORELIE for a long time + a third director from EQOM), communication has vastly improved.
Before the change, we had the feeling that we were ignored by the management and that we were a liability rather than an asset for AMORELIE. This was weird.
Since the change however, at least I feel mostly seen and valued. Communication is in time and mostly transparent within AMORELIE. The communication between the mother company EQOM and AMORELIE still lags sometimes a bit but they seem to be improving it step by step.
There could always be more but with two women out of three leadership roles, we're on a good track.
There's also plenty of colleagues that belong to the LGBTQ* community and openly talk about it. I cannot judge from experience but I have the feeling that everyone is welcomed the way they are.
The management also listens if things pop up that are discriminating in one or another way - and takes action as much as possible.
Sometimes they are challenging and insightful, sometimes they are boring and plain... just like anywhere else. In sum, it was good for me this way. Sometimes I wish that I could have had more room for development - like attending an external training for new tools or the like.
The atmosphere is very supportive. No matter what challenge or level, everyone tries their best to support.
I have never had such joyful conversations about my employer ;)
Everyone is very careful to your well-being and capacity. Of course, you have to speak up, if you are out of capacities. But if you do, colleagues try to be as supportive as possible. Working hours, sick days and vacation days are taken seriously.
There are also a lot of nice get-togethers. These include drinks in the office, team events with BBQ or boat trips, CSD parades, etc.
Promotions are fair. Further training is mostly done internally. Mentoring is happily offered (mostly on demand).
Salaries could be higher.
Sustainability is not taken seriously enough! It is tough with our products and the financial impact, but it should be a much higher priority!
AMORELIE's colleagues call themselves 'Lovers' on a 'Loveboat': For me, that says it all. I've had awesome teams in previous jobs, but AMORELIE is truly special. They all really care for each other. For me, that's the most amazing thing about this company.
The employees are very young. Right now, there is no one older than mid 40.
10/10! Supportive, empowering, challenging, addressable, fun to work with.
You get everything you need to be able to work. But a little more IT equipment would be good (e.g. headphones). Since Covid, we are a "remote first" company - so home office is first choice. This could be supported more (e.g. support with electricity costs).
AMORELIE does a really good job with communication. There are 1-2 meetings per week where everyone gets the latest news about important topics. It is very transparent where the company is right now and what the other teams are doing. Not only successes are shared, challenges too. Still, there is room for improvement. Especially together with the new parent company, EQOM. In the last few months, we have had to deal with a lot of cultural conflicts, but things are getting better.
Compared to the rest of the world: 10/10.
Compared to our internal standards: 7-8/10.
With our business, we are role models in diversity and love our quirks. No matter what ethnicity, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, and other diverse backgrounds you have, you will be more than welcome at AMORELIE. But as we are role models, we should and could do more!
Working with sex toys, breaking taboos and revolutionizing society is definitely interesting.
Love the people, the products and the company's mission!
I dislike the collaboration tools and the usage thereof (i.e. Slack, MS Teams, Calendars, Meetings). Although Amorelie has a great remote work culture, we haven't gotten around to really becoming experts at using digital tools to collaborate. Lots of potential is lost and I see lots of opportunities to become more effective.
The company and all team members would profit a lot from having more insights into the impact of the teams' initiatives. More business insights into the effects of the OKR strategy would certainly lead to more people daring to come up with ideas and suggestions. Along the lines, there's a lot of trust that "somebody" keeps the revenue up and the company running. It would be nice to see some initiatives to develop a greater sense of "ownership" over company KPIs across all levels. The people at Amorelie stick together; if everyone contributed with their talents and everyone collectively moved in the same direction, then only the sky would be the limit.
The people make the company! Amorelie has a very dedicated People & Culture team which continuously proved that it has the company's people at its heart. Various regular Q&As, team events, hangout sessions and trainings ensure that people don't feel isolated and are always kept up to date. People across all levels of seniority are incredibly friendly and empowering. It's just plain fun to work with the team :)
"I work at Amorelie" will continue to be an amazing ice breaker at parties and other social gatherings. The company is well-known and beloved across its customers - and those pretending not to be ;)
Amorelie did a great job implementing a remote work culture while keeping the local office culture alive in Berlin. Workload is fine and responsibilities are distributed fairly. I never had the feeling that I couldn't take time to get personal things sorted. Also after a prolonged time of crunching through projects, nobody had an issue with me taking some time off to decompress.
The company hosts lots of workshops, trainings and allocates a lot of space & time for team members to learn. In addition, the company gives everyone a chance to grow and has always invested into its talent pool.
Very competitive and fair, especially regarding the perks aside from the salary.
Amorelie does not (yet) have the most ecologically friendly impact on the planet. After all, we're selling packaged electronic consumer products. However, there's a very positive trend towards becoming a more sustainable company which I truly appreciate. Regarding the social awareness of the company, there's nothing that needs to be questioned. Amorelie is an absolute pioneer in the movement of bringing sexual happiness to people everywhere and I'm proud to be part of the movement. Amorelie has a proper self-awareness and stays true to the cause.
After some troublesome months following an acquisition by new owners, the remaining team members really do their best to keep talent and fulfil the company's mission together. Lots of "old souls" are taking on new roles and responsibilities and stepping up to the challenge. Although the last few months brought lots of frustration and some colleagues going into hibernation, many people kept their spirit up and continued to fight for the mission. Aside from the free toys and the mission, the people of Amorelie are really the best thing about working here.
The average age of team members is comparatively low. People have been pretty respectful all around and I haven't seen any bad behaviour or discrimination based on age during the time I've worked at Amorelie - neither towards older nor towards younger team members.
The current leadership team is amazing. Everyone is very transparent and clearly giving it all to keep talent and make Amorelie a great place to work. There are still some kinks (lol) that need to be ironed out with the company's new owners which has recently led to some frustration over communication or the lack thereof. However, within the company, I have never had any issues with the leadership team.
Tooling and the usage thereof is sufficient, but far away from excellent. People do often complain about systems "misbehaving" and communication & collaboration tools being less than supportive doing day to day tasks. Pretty much everyone is somehow blocked by insufficient tools and systems. Hardware and tooling budgets, however, are great. I've never had to fight for budget whenever I needed a certain tool to do my job. Unfortunately, collaborative tools (i.e. Slack, MS Teams, ...) seem to be means to an end with only very few people actually harvesting the full potential of such systems. I see some opportunities to improve here.
The team of directors has recently done a great job improving transparency. Even difficult topics are broadly discussed in weekly sessions and every team members is given the chance to ask questions or raise their voice towards leadership and the company's new owners. The company has started making its global and team strategies more visible through OKRs in the past year which truly added to everyone having a better understanding on whats going on across the teams. The only thing missing for me is a more clear communication towards the actual performance of the business as well as the impact of the OKR strategies. Some teams excel at sharing their successes while others are too quiet, unfortunately.
Amorelie is the most inclusive and progressive employer I've ever worked for in that regard.
Specifically in my team, the previous three quarters have mostly consisted of cleaning things up and going into maintenance mode. The tasks weren't as creative as you'd expect from an employer like Amorelie, but they were tasks that were required to keep the company going and move it into a mode in which it could operate successfully again. I saw it as an opportunity to learn about the importance of building sustainable and scalable processes, but would have liked to use the creative parts of my brain a little more. That being said, the new company strategy definitely has lots of space for creative work and will likely make everyday life a little more colourful for other team members and, hopefully, even me.
Nada. Amorelie is over!
Ausnahmslos einwandfrei!
Don't ask, just do your Job.
Neue pikante Wendung in diesem Drama: Die verbliebenen zwei Direktoren (vom Profil her völlig ungeeigneten) spielen nun Interimsgeschäftsführung.
Nichts, wirklich gar nichts. Und ich wurde (bisher noch) nicht gekündigt.
Everything! EQOM is an absolute horror! Once your company is taken over by them, you can be 100% sure it is the end!
So verdient kununu Geld.
