- People are nice, and I never had any issue in terms of behavior
- I like the technical challenges and the fact that you can see your impact in the product
- Career growth
- Communication is a huge problem
- Lack of soft skills between leaders/managers/principles
- Transparency and clarity
- Simply saying "we're a family" doesn’t make it true, actions do. If you're proud of your principles, then lead by example and live them. "Show, don’t tell" isn’t just a value; it should be a practice.
- Communication is a key. As far as felt, that's a real issue across the company because people were complaining from different teams.
- That's my friendly advice: People trust you, so you have to also trust people and be more transparent.
The team was generally friendly, and the environment felt dynamic. However, the pressure to constantly deliver and the lack of psychological safety made it difficult to feel truly comfortable long-term.
The company maintains a very strong external image and brand.
Working hours were flexible on paper, but the pressure to deliver, and communication issues often blurred the line between work and personal time.
There was strong support for learning and growth. I had access to budgets for courses and conferences, and internal knowledge-sharing was encouraged. This created a culture of continuous improvement.
The remote work policy is a benefit and much appreciated. However, salary progression requires significant self-advocacy, and you have to really fight for a salary raise, and there’s a noticeable lack of transparency around bonuses. Bonuses appear to be given selectively, without a clear or communicated structure. Despite working at the company for a considerable time, I was never made aware that a bonus program even existed.
The company tries to maintain a socially responsible image and makes some effort toward sustainability. Still, there’s room to make these values more integrated into day-to-day operations rather than just part of external messaging.
Most colleagues were supportive and collaborative, and there was a strong peer network. Unfortunately, the high-pressure culture occasionally led to internal competition or a lack of trust.
There was clear respect and collaboration across age groups. Experience was appreciated, and team members of all ages were treated with equal professionalism.
Once you were no longer useful, support was quickly withdrawn.
The tools and physical working environment (even in remote settings) were generally solid.
Communication was one of the biggest challenges, not only between teams and squads, but also across the company. I think the reason is, "principles" and "team leaders" are more technical than they are knowledgeable about management and leadership. In fact, there is a huge lack of soft skills.
The company genuinely values diversity and provides equal opportunities in most cases. However, sometimes internal promotions or recognition seemed to depend more on visibility than merit, which could unintentionally create inequality.
The work was exciting and intellectually stimulating. I had the opportunity to work on real problems with real impact, and that was definitely a highlight.
- Ambitious company
- Flexibility (remote, working time, no micro management)
- Cool colleagues
- Cool colleagues (yes I wrote this twice)
- Very multiculti, 20+ nationalities
- Workation
- The company is not stingy
- There is an epilot song you sing during your onboarding
- There is an epilot song you sing during your onboarding
- If you do not drink alcohol (like me) sometimes you can feel a bit lost
- Communication can always be improved
Honestly, compared to where I worked before, epilot is already doing things much better than most of the German tech companies. I would improve the communication. Two or three colleagues or more needs some soft skills training, but in the end it’s something I can work comfortably with.
Unlike other companies I’ve worked for in the past, at epilot I get a lot of trust and freedom to do my work. Being independent and taking ownership of what I do is essential for me, and I can feel that trust here. I also like that it’s a flat hierarchy, and that I feel comfortable speaking out or reaching out to anyone if I need help or have ideas. At epilot, I’m basically the captain of my own ship (and I love it that way), but I also have a team behind me that I can count on when I need support.
Before joining epilot I had never heard of the company to be honest. Only after I joined I found out that epilot is very well known within the German energy market.
As I mentioned above, epilot empowers me and gives me ownership of my tasks. I know my goals and what I need to achieve to be successful. No one will ever ask you to stay late at work, and no one looks at you weird if you come in at 9:30, leave the office at 17:00, or decide to work from home because you feel like it. At the end of the day, what matters is the outcome. So you have a lots of freedom but you must understand that epilot has ambition, so you have to deliver. It’s a fair give-and-take situation in my opinion.
It really depends on the direction you want to take your career and if it’s relevant to epilot. If that’s the case, then the sky is the limit. The Head of Engineering started as a simple tech employee few years ago. Some colleagues started at working student and now are working full time etc
Comparing to other tech companies out there, I can say that epilot is not stingy. If you come with the right mindset and the right skill you will get well paid for your position.
I guess epilot can do more here, but it’s also up to all colleagues first. For example, writing names consistently on water bottles would help so we don’t have to throw them away because we don’t know who they belong to. Same for the foods: three yogurt pots are opened at the same time, they are not closed properly, and then we throw them away because they are moldy.
Cohesion is excellent within my team. Company culture is essential. We eat mostly lunch together and after work we do sport or have dinner etc together. It is not required by the company, it is just human dynamics. As a foreigner working in Germany it is perfect for me because I can also makes friend and experience Cologne with native Germans or with international colleagues. I mean the pictures are talking for themselves, I guess.
I am amongst the top 10 older colleagues at epilot :p I have the double of the age of a colleagues who is a working student. Age here is not a problem, it is just about the mindset. epilot is an ambitious tech company. I feel confortable here and part of epilot.
In my team I don’t work often with C-level but thanks to the flat hierarchy I can speak to anyone when needed. In my team my manager is always there but I feel like people here are colleagues first not managers C-level or working students. One thing though: I wish we had more women as heads of or within the C-level.
One of the best working conditions I ever experienced. We use Macbook with M chips, office is super confortable, fridge is always full of foods, drinks, ice cream... Maybe if you are on a diet like me, then it is not the right working environment because colleagues always bake cakes or brings sweet stuff back from vacations ^^
Communication can be improved at epilot. A lot of colleagues work remotely, so sometimes there are misunderstandings. Also, not everyone has strong soft skills, but at the end of the day it works out. The good news is that modern tools like Slack are used to communicate, and many events are organized throughout the year to meet colleagues face to face and get to know each other better.
As I said above, I wish we have more women as Head of or C levels. I witness that advancement and promotion are given at epilot based on merit.
Well...how can I say it? At epilot I never get bored ^^ I am doing various tasks and can feel the impact/contribution that I can have from within. What I love here is that there is no top down. No one tells me what to do. As I explained above, I have my goal. I know exactly what is expected so I can plan my days as I want. My days are never boring
Bisher alles :)
Nichts
Keine
The working atmosphere at Epilot is truly exceptional. The team fosters a culture of collaboration, positivity, and mutual respect. Everyone is approachable, and there's a perfect balance between professionalism and having fun. It’s the kind of place where you feel valued and motivated every single day.
Epilot truly values work-life balance, providing flexibility and understanding for personal needs. Whether it's managing workloads or accommodating time off.
It truly feels like working with friends who have your back. Everyone is supportive, willing to share knowledge, and quick to collaborate.
Approachable, supportive, and always willing to listen. They offer guidance when needed but also trust their teams to take ownership of their work. It’s clear that they genuinely care about both the professional growth.
Communication at Epilot is open. Whether it’s team meetings, one-on-ones, or casual discussions, everyone’s ideas and feedback are encouraged and valued. I wish if there was a little transparency, but all in all it was good.
Nichts was mir auf Anhieb einfällt…
Epilot gives you the possibility to be the boss of your own day, you can work from home if you want to our you can come in to the office and work with the most amazing team. You got the possibility to grow in epilot and you work very closely with your leaders, there is an open communication where you talk about what you need to focus on and your challenges.
I really do not have anything bad to mention about epilot, I could not be happier.
Keep up the good work!
When I started at epilot they really introduced me with open arms, just after one week I already felt I have been working there for ages. It is always a blast coming in to the office, and I am always looking forward to it on the days that I am coming in. We are also a quite international team, however, when everybody comes to the office around summit and Christmas times it is the best time of the year. We do a lot of fun stuff together, from team building, eating out, workshops in the office and so much more. If I could rate the work atmosphere more I would. ⭐️
I believe epilot has a really good image, I am always recommending more people to apply for a job here because people are really missing something out here. It is such a blast! Have a look at our after movies on LinkedIn because that really shows our culture and team atmosphere.
Also full stars here. When you work at epilot you have flexible working hours, which means you can decide how you want to work every week, as long as you are working your full hours per week, depending on your contract. But if you have to go to the doctors, pick-up children in the kindergarten or work out in the middle of the day that is no issue as long as you don’t have any meetings of course. But this makes things so much more convenient in being more in charge of your day, which is a really big advantage.
You got the possibility to join events and workshops such as Digitale Leute which mainly focuses on PMs. Epilot are open to buy you further books about Product Management if you want to learn more. And also the biggest plus is for the international employees that wants to learn German, they get the offer to do German lessons in the “normal working hours” that will also get further support in terms of learning a new language.
You get a very good salary as a PM compared to the market. There is also possibilities to increase this at a later time.
Our company car is an electric car, we sort trash and make sure to take environmental decisions in the office. Our product is all about focusing on the energy transition, which definitely shows that we focus on the environment.
Same as the first point here, it is just an amazing work culture at epilot. I wouldn’t want anything different.
We have a quite young team, I am guessing the average age is around 30, so this is not even a problem statement at all, and if so it would not be a problem at epilot I am sure of that!
We have a really close relationship with our PM leader or the head of PM. You get a lot of trust, which I think gives you an possibility to grow and to develop even more as a PM. If anything you can always ask for help or advise either in the weekly 1:1 you have with the head of or by simply just contacting him. We have a really flat hierarchy which makes it super easy and convenient to ask for tips and advise.
You get you own Mac Book, Key board, mouse, and everything else you need. You also get an iPhone however this depends on your department, but as a PM you get an option to have one if needed.
We have really good communication at epilot, we talk about our goals and vision quarterly which gives transparency to the rest of the company. We do not have meeting like this on a daily/weekly basis, but I do not mind that, but it is something that is definitely a big focus in the different squads/teams (PM+ Devs).
It does not matter who you are, how you are, you will always be taken in to the company with open arms.
As a PM you know how the process normally goes when developing a new product/feature. However, your working day is never the same you always have different challenges to tackle, you communicate with the customers and you attend evens to network and to get even closer with our clients.
No strict office hours - be your own manager
never heard something bad about epilot - only good things from internals and others in the market
super flexible
no clear career plans, individual plans possible though
fair salary - open feedback & transparent career opportunities
the company purpose & vision is to accelerate the energy transition
Great team, happy to spend time with them also after the working hours.
young people mostly, normal start-up characteristics
honest feedback and personal growth culture
state-of-the-art hardware (newest apple products)
Open communication culture (slack, quarterly meetings, etc.)
do "whatever-it-takes" to lead the company to success
So verdient kununu Geld.
