I joined KLU expecting professional development, ownership and opportunities to progress. Instead, I found career development strongly influenced by hierarchy and personal connections. Recruitment often appeared to happen through existing networks; in my own department, my former manager eventually hired a friend who had previously applied for another position at KLU. There was little structured support for career progression. Staff salaries I encountered were generally around €45,000, while information available to me indicated that even relatively junior faculty could earn around €80,000. I cannot verify every individual salary, but the difference was substantial. Staff were expected to provide extensive administrative support while receiving significantly less recognition, support and respect than faculty. My own experience was particularly frustrating because I entered my final performance review intending to request a salary increase, only to be informed that I was being dismissed. After almost three years, I left feeling that KLU’s international and progressive external image did not reflect the reality experienced by staff.

Salaries meet bare minimum standards and salary development is limited. Raises are not given. Benefits are minimal compared to many other employers and do not compensate for the low salary levels.

Das Gehaltsniveau ist nicht marktgerecht und lässt jegliche Dynamik vermissen. Trotz überdurchschnittlicher Leistungen blieben Gehaltsanpassungen in der Vergangenheit aus. Es entsteht der Eindruck, dass Engagement und Qualität finanziell nicht honoriert werden.

Just the worst!! The average salary for admin staff is around 40-43k, which is unbelieveable. Then there is-only after two years- the possibility to literally fight for 1-3% inflation compensation, which is already a joke itself on top of the low salaries. Not the mention the salary freeze in the last two years. Employees can literally not survive while budget for work seems endless and is being spend just to be spend every year. Also no benefits whatsoever. 15€ for HVV and a BAV with 20€ (literally the minimum by law), a very overpriced kanteen with no subsidization for employees and an inhouse gym that employees had to pay 20€ for until last year! They also offer yoga classes which to have to pay for 100% yourself. You just think they have got to be kidding, right?!
Also all professors earn super high salaries while admin is literally trying to survive. Two class society at KLU!
Also there is not really a chance to make a career because in the past mostly returns from parental leave got promoted as a "Head", unfortunately never stocked up on leader skills. The leaders in general are all lacking of leadership skills and are the worst I have ever seen.

Many friends work in other higher education institutions in Germany, salary is definitely below average and completely intransparent - you have to fight for a raise or dubious 'target agreements'

Salaries are well below industry standards, with no bonuses, Christmas pay, or similar benefits. Unlike at public universities, where raises are automatic, salary increases are not guaranteed. If you are not strong at negotiating, you may end up earning significantly less than colleagues doing the same job. Overall, there is uncertainty and stagnation due to salary freezes.
