Work Culture & Community: Strong sense of camaraderie in select product, design, and engineering teams, alongside highly valued Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) promoting inclusivity.
Product & Work Environment: A surprisingly solid end product, good office facilities (Berlin), standard work-life balance flexibility, and acceptable base compensation.
Leadership & Strategy: Chaotic, out-of-touch leadership with constantly shifting short-term priorities, top-down half-baked ideas, and a lack of consistent long-term vision.
Toxic Governance & Office Politics: Rampant backstabbing, political power struggles across C-suite/VP/Director levels, constant squabbling between Management, HR, and the Workers Council, and treating employees as disposable.
Flawed Performance Management: Inconsistent, easily manipulated review systems that reward mid-to-poor performers while failing to recognize top talent with meaningful promotions or pay increases.
Overhaul Executive & Middle-Management Leadership: Eliminate toxic, power-seeking behaviors at the C-suite, VP, and Director levels. Leadership must lead with self-awareness, cross-functional synergy, and accountability rather than political gamesmanship.
Establish a Stable, Long-Term Strategy: Stop shifting corporate and product direction every quarter. Commit to a clear, data-informed roadmap that lets teams finish high-value projects without sudden, unjustified top-down deprioritization.
Fix Performance & Promotion Systems: Build transparent, objective performance criteria that reward genuine impact and talent rather than political maneuvering or changing internal narratives.
Management, HR and the Workers Council are constantly squabbling. Management’s sole focus is self-sustainability while employees are treated as disposable goods. This is fine but it’s unacceptable if they expect everyone to work like they’re at Apple and let’s be honest N26 isn’t. Mid and poor performance is rewarded while great performance goes unrewarded.
Good product, good colleagues, bad company. All the stories you hear are absolutely true.
Very possible if one's capable of shutting off the noise.
Performance and development expectations, and performance reviews are ever changing, inconsistent, easy to manipulate and fit whatever storyline is needed at the moment.
Not the worst salaries out there, but performance and promotion-based increases are incredibly low.
Could be worse, could be better.
There is a sense of comradery in specific product, design and engineering segments. Unfortunately, the sense of collegiality is lost if segment leads are toxic, incompetent and care only about their own spotlight.
I’ve never worked for a company with such chaotic, non-synergistic, focus-lacking and out-of-touch leadership. It’s incredible the product is as good as it is given the lack of product strategy. The company strategy shifts every three months and projects are accelerated and then dropped even faster. It’s like Game of Thrones meets The Office and it’s not even entertaining. The only funny thing is seeing certain managers and leads breaking their backs to acquire power and stabbing everyone in the back, only to get stabbed themselves as well - there's some fairness in the world!
The Berlin office is good, and there's home office/remote flexibility (albeit that can change on a whim depending on who's pulling the current leadership strings).
Gossip ran rampant and management, at least until the recent shake-ups, communicated without self-awareness. The HR team was a lackey executing bizarre decisions while priorities shifted with laughable or non-existent justifications.
ERGs are great and one of the real highlights in the company - people who are organising initiatives and promoting serious talk and values are amazing. It's not properly reflected in the top management, but at least there's a queer, POC and female leader here and there.
There's a lot of great features and projects that teams COULD be working on (or they start working on), only for them to get deprioritised by the lastest top-down half-baked ideas .
Gute Vernetzung, nette Kolleg:innen

Treat everyone the same. Stop creating A and B series employees. Collaborate openly with the work councils. This means avoid doing stupid proposals during negotiations just to make everyone mad. It's not hard. Ask the employees what they think and listen openly. Stop wasting a lot of money in useless stuff like fancy vegan snacks, the barista in the office, free drinks etc. Just use those money to make your employees happy paying them more. Or letting them work from abroad. This company could really make a difference in the finance word. But they care only about the outside image rather than the employees retention and happiness. They were born a cool innovative company, they are slowly becoming a regular boring bank.
The company maintains a strict and outdated in office policy (3 days a week in office - no work from abroad allowed). This is used almost daily as a threat to blackmail employees. The employer just wants the employees to feel bad for having a strong work council that fights for everyone rights. It's a divide et impera situation. But also a trumpian style negationist management: "we hear your problems but we don't care".
3 days in the office is better than 5 for sure. But considering 80% of the workforce is made of immigrants, it would be nice to have the possibility to work from abroad at least 4 weeks in a year.
Both good hard working people and useless career sharks, like everywhere else. Although the feeling is of having spies everywhere. You never know if your desk mate is a good person, or will sell your mistakes to the management for a small career step.
Newer colleagues are paid way more than people working there since 4+ years. Salary raises are rare.
They know nothing. They don't listen. They just spend money on useless stuff and when they realize that a mistake was made, they blame somebody else.
The office is nice. But it's just a showoff. It's cleaner and better styles for companies like N26 Tech, and SE. The Operations GmbH Floor is the dirtiest and least well maintained.
Always "we are a family" and all corporate blabbering. But in the end there's no real listening to employee's requests. Everything the company does is for it's own marketing image.
You have a lot of career possibilities. Just make sure you're white and German (or Austrian).
Teams and team leaders maintain a very positive environment but cannot say the same about the management.
The incomes are very low. So low that the Ausländerbehörde refused to acknowledge that my income matched my education and position. It is also very difficult to grow your income.
Diversity is valued. Employees treat each other with understanding and respect.
A lot of politics and favouritism
Great colleagues
Gender pay gap
Hard to grow in the company the tasks are often repetitive
Druck, Chaos, schwache und ständig Wechsel Strategie, viel Politik, wenig Menschlichkeit, wenig Kommunikation
Weiterbildung ja, Karriere nein
Keine Wachstumschancen, min.
Nothing.
Team environment was amazing. But the work environment as a whole: management decisions, not giving people permanent contract, horrible shifts..
Most of the colleagues talked badly about the company
No work-life-balance. Working weekends and holidays, even late shifts. When technically "one has to have at two weekends free in a month". I was once scheduled to work weekends 5 Weekends in a row..
At the beginning there was a lot of chances of promotion, getting courses/classes paid by the company (but difficult to manage due to the horrible working schedules). Don't know how it is know.
Low income.
Can't say
Colleagues inside the team were amazing
Team leaders were very nice, empathic and understanding (at least in my team). But the superiors above the team leader were literally quitting after 6 months/1 year or so and always having someone new taking charge (probably because the goals of the owners for customer operations were unrealistic or those people finding better jobs with the competitors)
In customer operations be prepared for endless customer requests with understaffed team, working weekends, low payment, firing you after contract finishes after 1-2 years since you are easily replaceable despite having good performance.
Problems with communication between other departments and customer operations
Very repetitive tasks. Just dealing with customers non stop for 8 hours straight.
So verdient kununu Geld.
