During my probation period, I informed the company that I was facing a serious medical situation that was still being clarified. At that point, I did not yet have a final diagnosis or a full understanding of what was happening medically, but it was already clear that the situation could be serious and might require a longer period of absence and recovery.

Shortly afterwards, while I was on sick leave, I received my termination by email.

I understand that a termination during the probation period can be legally possible. I also understand that companies have to make difficult decisions. However, the timing and the way the situation was handled felt deeply impersonal, especially considering the circumstances.

After I had communicated the seriousness and uncertainty of my medical situation, there was no further conversation about it. No call, no personal exchange, no attempt to speak to me directly. The employment relationship was simply ended by email while I was officially on sick leave.

I cannot judge the internal reasoning behind the decision. I can only describe how it was experienced from my side. Before I even knew what exactly was happening to me health wise, and while I was dealing with a genuinely frightening and uncertain situation, the company chose to end the employment relationship in the most impersonal way possible.

What stayed with me most was the contrast between the company’s public messaging around culture, community, and care, and my own experience in a genuinely difficult moment. For me, this was a situation where company values were not tested in theory, but in practice.

Unfortunately, my experience left me with the impression that those stated values did not extend very far once an employee became vulnerable, uncertain, or temporarily unavailable.

One of the Most Demotivating Work Environments I’ve Experienced

2,7

Ex-Angestellte/r oder Arbeiter/inHat bis 2026 für dieses Unternehmen in München gearbeitet.

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

A few colleagues who were professional, supportive, and enjoyable to work with.

Looking back, I am personally very relieved to have left the company. Unfortunately, this was overall the most negative professional experience of my career so far.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

What I found especially challenging:
•strong micromanagement,
•very rigid and demanding shift scheduling
•high pressure combined with low appreciation
•limited transparency regarding contract extensions and career development,
•inconsistent leadership and weak management within the team,
•a heavy focus on metrics rather than sustainable employee development

Over time, the general atmosphere in the office felt increasingly demotivating. Many employees appeared exhausted, while constructive feedback and improvement suggestions seemed to receive limited consideration.
Especially for candidates considering a role in CS, I would strongly recommend asking detailed questions in advance about leadership style, workload expectations, and long-term career perspectives.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

I joined the company with a great deal of motivation and genuine enthusiasm. Unfortunately, my experience deteriorated significantly over time.

Particularly within the CS department, I experienced the work environment as consistently tense and unsustainable. Turnover appears to be high, processes are often short-term and poorly coordinated, and there is, in my opinion, a lack of clear communication and reliable long-term perspective for employees.

Really Bad

Ex-Angestellte/r oder Arbeiter/inHat bis 2026 für dieses Unternehmen in München gearbeitet.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Working conditions in Customer Success are extremely inflexible. Planning is often done last minute and feels inefficient and poorly structured. Participation in meetings is rarely accommodated during working hours; instead, employees are expected to review recordings after hours, even when important updates are shared.

There is also very little time allocated for internal communication and team exchange. Teams are chronically understaffed, yet there seems to be little effort to retain high-performing employees. Avoiding permanent contracts appears to be a higher priority, which results in most employees leaving after around two years.

Salary increases are minimal and often do not even keep up with inflation, even during strong business periods. Time for development and salary discussions has been significantly reduced, and within two years, no clear career progression was offered. The focus is almost exclusively on case numbers and micromanagement.

Performance is heavily monitored, and even minor drops—such as when someone is unwell—are quickly addressed, despite consistent performance over months. Overall, expectations are very high (including overtime), while support, flexibility, and recognition are lacking.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

The work environment places little value on work-life balance. There is vno flexibility in working hours, and employees are expected to prioritize work over their personal lives. Even break times are not self-determined, which contributes to a rather rigid and restrictive atmosphere.

Gehalt/Benefits

Pay is weak considering the performance expectations. The most telling sign: when raises were discussed, the company offered more money in exchange for vacation days. In all my career, i have Never heard something like that

Interessante Aufgaben

The work is largely repetitive and monotonous. Tasks are very similar day-to-day, offering little variety or opportunity to engage in more interesting or diverse activities.

Drastic changes in the Home Office and Working from abroad policy

Verbesserungsvorschläge

I must say that until December last year I was very happy too work here. By now I don't feel comfortable to recommend the company since they seem to like too make drastic changes in there policies at the moment and for many people Home Office and working from abroad are super important.

Since December you can feel that the vibe is off thanks too drastic changes in the working from abroad policy plus teased changes regarding the Home Office Policy

Arbeitgeber-Kommentar

Dear colleague,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience so openly. We’re sorry to hear that the atmosphere has felt different for you since December 2025, and that recent discussions and adjustments around flexible work have created uncertainty and pressure.

We understand how important flexibility is—especially when it comes to flexible home office options and working from abroad. That’s why we’d like to clarify that our hybrid working model remains in place, and that working from abroad will continue to be part of our flexible work offering.

At the same time, we take your feedback on communication and change management seriously. Even when updates to policies are necessary, it’s crucial that we communicate the “why” transparently and make space for questions and concerns—so that changes don’t negatively impact trust and team culture.

Thank you as well for highlighting the positive aspects, like the supportive colleagues and competitive compensation in CS.
We want to thank you once again for your review and we wish you all the best.

Kind regards

Developing in the wrong direction

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

I really enjoyed working there over the last few years. It was a rewarding and positive experience, especially at a time when the company embraced flexibility through home office and remote working options. That level of trust and adaptability made a real difference to my day-to-day work and allowed me to stay productive while maintaining a healthy work–life balance.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Recently, remote working was reduced to just 15 days per year and the reasoning behind this change felt rather weak and unconvincing. This is especially disappointing because remote working was one of the aspects that truly made Scalable unique and set it apart as an employer. Losing that flexibility has significantly changed the culture and overall employee experience. Alongside this, the work environment in CS has become noticeably more controlling. Entire workdays are tightly scheduled, with little to no flexibility. Breaks can no longer be taken freely and CS leadership closely monitors daily login and logoff times. Even minor deviations are flagged and require explanation, which has led to a level of micromanagement that feels excessive.
Taken together, these changes give the impression that the company is developing in the wrong direction, moving away from the values that once made it a distinctive and attractive workplace. The company value People is all we got seems to be completely forgotten.

Dear colleague,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We genuinely appreciate it.
We’re also very happy to hear that you enjoyed your time with us over the last few years and experienced the work as rewarding and positive — especially thanks to the trust and flexibility around home office and remote working, which supported your productivity and work–life balance.

At the same time, we’re sorry to hear how strongly the recent changes have impacted your experience. We understand that reducing remote working can feel like a real loss, particularly when flexibility was one of the things that made Scalable stand out for you as an employer. Your comments about the Customer Service environment — including tighter scheduling, reduced day-to-day flexibility, and the way adherence is handled — are important and we take them seriously. It’s not our goal for any team to experience the culture as overly controlling or to feel micromanaged.

Thank you as well for referencing our “People is all we got” value. We want this value to be reflected in how we work together, especially during times of change, and feedback like yours helps us identify where we need to do better.
We do continue to offer home office options and a defined number of Working From Abroad days — with the intention of preserving flexibility while also enabling a cooperative, collaborative working environment and strong team connection.

Thank you again for sharing this — we wish you all the best for your next steps, and we’ll take your feedback into our ongoing improvements.

Many greetings
Anesa

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

I've been working for Scalable for around two years which I consider one of the best employers I worked for. Nice people, friendly environment, good area for an innovation despite being a bank. I'd have always strongly recommend Scalable for my friends. Unfortunately, this looks to be changing aftr a blunder ...

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Out of sudden the top management decided to cutoff the work-from-abroad benefit from 60 to 15 days. Moreover to force return-to-office policy with 50-50%. First of all, communicating these critical decisions were done poorly. Second, the given justifications for both decisions were unconvincing and inconsistent and doesn't make much sense.
It is clear to every one the decision was made and communicated in a hurry, without thinking of the consequences, without consulting even the senior management. This was the Christmas gift following one of the most successful years in Scalable history where literally every one worked extra hours and on weekend to make this happen. This've sent a very negative message. And I hope the management could see this and act accordingly.

Dear colleague,

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback and for your commitment over the past two years.

We’re glad to hear that you value Scalable as a great place to work, and we’re sorry that the recent changes to our work‑from‑abroad and hybrid working policies have been disappointing for you. We take your comments on both the decisions themselves and how they were communicated seriously and will factor this into how we shape and explain our ways of working going forward.

Scalable continues to offer a flexible hybrid working model that allows colleagues to work a substantial share of their time remotely, while also benefiting from in‑person collaboration in the office. We see this combination as a strength of how we work together.

Thank you again for your openness and feedback.

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

The previous review is so on spot, that I have little to add to it.
Having been with Scalable since 2021 I’ve loved working with talented inspired people on the product we all treated as our own.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

High paced development may be very stressful, but for us it was a challenge - to make a great product that will bring financial stability to the customers.
In a remote environment and with a flexible schedule (to some extent, there are still core hours) we could balance between inspiration, quiet productivity and mental rest.
But apparently this is not what the management appreciates and values. “People is all we’ve got” is empty words now, unsupported by actions.
The reduction of work from abroad allowance in a company, where most of engineering power is constituted by international talent felt like a betrayal.
Besides that, the clear intention to make people return to the office and cut remote contracts shows how little the CEO office understands and values engineers.
Creative work isn’t done in loud distracting office spaces.
The recent changes undermined the trust in management, their credibility and the future doesn’t look bright.

From Great to corporate

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

I loved working at Scalable in the past and still do. The company is highly ambitious and has managed to attract so many amazing people that I just love working with. Building a great high quality product with a high degree of visibility (e.g. all my friends know and use it) is so rewarding. And although being a bank by now, it still does (or better say 'did') feel like a working at start-up. A highly organised and professional one though.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Lately, they are taking all the wrong turns. Scalable is a company built on very smart and talented people willing to go the extra mile. And in order to attract these people, the company culture created was matching what these people seek: An environment of trust paired with a high degree of freedom. Meaning, flexible working hours, an unlimited home office policy, and a very generous work-from-abroad policy.

In return, people were willing to make the next audacious highly ambitious deadline work. Working not far, but considerably beyond their 40 hours per week, during the night and weekends when necessary (to keep product disruption with client impact to a minimum), and under constant pressure to deliver faster. While stressful for many, such an environment is motivating for most people I work with at Scalable. And that environment is being changed fundamentally right now.

The trust in its people seems to be gone. And with it, the granted freedoms are being taken away. Recently, a new work-from-abroad policy almost completely took away previously granted rights. The home office policy is being severely reduced. (Note: I like to come to the office most of the days, but know that I'm significantly more productive at home. Their office neither has enough meeting rooms nor allows for concentrated work in a quiet environment.) And all of these new policies are announced in a tone-deaf and out-of-touch manner by leadership. It's quite apparent that they are not realising that they are taking away the essence of what makes Scalable attractive to most of the fantastic people working here.

The impact of those decisions won't become apparent right away, but over time. Asking for the same level of commitment while granting fewer freedoms - the math doesn't add up. The company will pay for it by losing its great people in exchange for mediocre ones.

Bottom line: Don't come to Scalable now. You missed out on its great years. It's going to be nothing more than the average corporate bank soon.

The company has suddenly removed the remote working benefit

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

A few days before Christmas, officially to encourage socialisation among employees, the company suddenly reduced the remote working benefit from 60 to 15 (!) days per year. The announcement was made by email, citing unlikely regulatory reasons, and there has been no room for discussion.
Suddenly making employees' lives so much worse and not keeping the promises made at the time of hiring is unacceptable for a reputable company, and who knows what will happen in the future.
