Curse of the startup
Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Good place to stay for 2 years, learn something and leave
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Salary
HR department and their communication
Management communication
Decision making
Equipment used in the office
Verbesserungsvorschläge
1. Bring the company, it's benefits and compensation on the German standards
2. Start listening to your employees
3. Get them equipment which is suitable for a market leader and IT company on year 2022
4. Start paying German salaries, we are in Germany
5. Get some experienced colleagues and managers
6. Get some decision power, don't act as remote asian subsidiary.
7. Start communicating proactively, especially on unpleasant topics
8. Managers should get crisis management training
Unfortunately, this startup grew too fast, due to good product developed in Taiwan. There are no internal workflows, no skilled managers, no communication skills and to make it worse, the salaries, employee benefits are as for Asian company = bad.
Arbeitsatmosphäre
The atmosphere on the working place depends on the team and team manager. In general, the team mates are nice, helpful and friendly. Cooperation with other departments is in general also OK. Top management likes to push a strange rules and targets, sometimes without deeper consideration in beforehand, resulting in having late but strict rules, without logical background, or targets and new tasks, not related to strategy set at the beginning of the year.
Kommunikation
Communication is just bad. Not only it's in most cases too late, it's not pro-active, not clear and definitely not transparent. Team managers can't answer questions, probably because they have no background info whatsoever. For team members it's not important why team manager can't answer or explain what's going on.
Even for recent events, such as Covid or conflict in Ukraine, no information is shared at all.
Some colleagues are disappearing, changing departments or jobs, one figures just months later that something happened.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Within the team mostly perfect. But the teams are pushed to compete or fight between each other, add the constant overload and you will have atmosphere, where everybody plays for himself.
Work-Life-Balance
It's good. But it's strongly compensated (, in negative meaning) by poor salaries.
You can survive and work for the company by just providing average or below average performance, and you'll be not punished or kicked out, because they'll have hard time to find a replacement for you :) it's a great company for lazy people. On the other side, if you'll like to stand out in the competition and show something, you'll be rewarded by additional tasks, but not money, or something similar. Just don't do it.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
Some team members are more lucky than the others. It's a public secret, that especially some of the German speaking teams are not happy with their manager(s), resulting in complete team refresh every 2 years. People are coming and going, because they are not treated well, they see all the issues this company has and don't see any way how it could improve. Some of team managers are really close to the team, we understand they can't change anything and we take them as one of us...
Interessante Aufgaben
This is one of the few positives this company can offer you. Since it's basically a startup, you can help building a lot of things, change some things, but you can't expect be somehow rewarded for it, specially not financially rewarded. Still its a good opportunity to learn and prove yourself you can do it, but after some time doing it, you'll feel like - it would be nice to get paid for my work, this is not meant to be a hobby, but a work...
Gleichberechtigung
When cooperating with othet department ls, one can sometimes get the feeling he is working with fully incompetent people. In many cases it's probably true. The only explanation why is this possible, has to be, that some team supervisors are keeping this colleagues (their team members) at work, because they have friendly relationships and the team members are taking advantage out of it. Also, as mentioned before, maybe they are the smart ones, because they work only as much as they get paid.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
There are not old colleagues, maybe 1-2 are above 45. If you end up in Synology as older person, you did something wrong.
Arbeitsbedingungen
Just bad. Everything has to be cheap. You'll get 1-2 cheapest screens, if you lucky quite OK laptop, German Windows mutation evem you don't speak a word German, some departments also MS Office.
You'll get the cheapest chair, a desk, cheapest mouse and keyboard you would never buy as an IT affiliate.
Team managers like to highlight you get fruit basket, free coffee and soft drink, which definitely was a deal, just the time was 20 years ago. Maybe they should start highlighting, that you don't have to work on weekends //* irony off
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
I think that's OK, nothing to complain about, but also nothing to complain. We've been reminded to turn off heating when leaving the office, but I suspect it's because of financial reasons. Also the firt guy in the office in the morning gets cold.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
It's just bad.
You wouldn't work here for money. There are 3 types of people working here.
1. You finished your study, you have no clue what to do and no experience or knowledge. The brand itself is well known, so you'll try it. After 2 years you learned what you could, so it's time to move ajd start earning money somewhere else.
2. Eastern European colleagues - you are shortly after school, or just tired of your country, you'll take advantage of the EU citizenship and take badly paid work at Synology as a door opener for your future career in Germany. After few years you'll leave, or end up here forever, enjoying your comfort zone and for eastern Europeans quite OK money.
3. Low skilled people enjoying comfort zone. You are from Germany, doing just enough to not be fired. Since it's not easy to get fired in Germany, you don't really have to do a lot.
Image
Synology is a market leader outside. But it's a freaking startup inside.
Employees are not satisfied, a lot of them leaving, the less talented ones staying. It's a great opener for your career, but bad company to stay at. Your efforts will not be acknowledged, grab the knowledge and leave.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
There seems to be some budget for a trainings, the amounts are so low, that you'll end up taking udemy classes, and as bonus, you have to prepare a training for other colleagues and share with them what you learned.
Internal trainings were useless, in every aspect of the word.
