There is a lot of frustration among the employees. Failures are usually glossed over and problems ignored. In many cases, the management has too little sensitivity for the precarious situation in the mostly understaffed teams. There is often the feeling that dreaming big and working reality are drifting further and further apart. Many recent decisions seem to have been made only to increase profits, leaving much of the human aspect behind.
Image
Used to be better. Through the fusion with Heimat, the TBWA Group is currently trying to bring the prestige from Berlin to Düsseldorf.
Work-Life-Balance
Depends on team and can fluctuate from workday to continual overtime.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
From week to week there are some interesting presentations. But only a few get to participate in the real TBWA Elite training programs. Newcomers often have a hard time and have to struggle through it. Career jumps have to be paid for with sympathy points, which you get from your bosses. Talent sometimes doesn't play as big a role as one might think.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
Like promotions, salary negotiations are a difficult subject and often take more than half a year. Although Omnicon and the TBWA Group are not doing badly in the crisis according to the trade press, to my knowledge there has been no inflation compensation or salary adjustments so far. For my expectation the pay is relatively lower average for a normal employee and could be a bit better for the very complex field of work. However, this has become common practice in the advertising industry, which is not very employee-friendly.
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
There is still no real waste separation in my opinion.
Kollegenzusammenhalt
There are many nice people working in the agency, who all know that they are sitting in the same boat. Unfortunately, it is the lack of capacity and the misorganization of the leads that makes the mood drop from time to time, even among each other. Especially you have to watch out for a few toxic personalities who like to trip others up when things get tight.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
There are still a few people over 50! But many of the experienced creatives who have been there for longer have disappeared over time.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
Many who did their job very well are unfortunately not there anymore. The management communicates at eye level and wraps everything up in nice words. Organizationally, most things are hidden from the staff. The accounting people in the higher positions are often considered more important than the creatives who do the job. Thereby, one can get the feeling that there are some who rest on the work of others.
Arbeitsbedingungen
Noisy open-plan offices with few opportunities for privacy and a lot of hustle and bustle. The technical equipment is standard for the branch. Some of the office furniture is a bit outdated, but on the whole acceptable. The rows of desks are somewhat reminiscent of a government office. Unfortunately, there are officially no longer any permanent workstations where you can create some private space.
Many practical and useful programs and features are blocked by Omnicon for cybersecurity reasons, and exceptions have to be approved in a rather complicated way by supervisors and the IT department. No air conditioning in the summer. Free soft drinks have been eliminated in favor of employee health. The home office days are always the best.
Kommunikation
A lot of blah blah blah, but there is not much open and honest communication. Many things you only find out through the grapevine. Basically, everything is always sold as an innovation even when it's a disadvantage. It is also not uncommon to keep employees motivated with empty promises. Also, one may doubt that HR really helps the employees with their concerns. Especially in the upper levels, responsibilities are gladly passed on in case of problems. For many people, the upper echelons sit in an ivory tower.
Gleichberechtigung
There are many women in anykind of position.
Interessante Aufgaben
The work is mostly creative, but the allocation of work is unfortunately quite unsophisticated. There is too much work in silos for my opinion. Pitches and new business are frequently given to the same people. Unfortunately, there is rarely exchange between the core teams on the fixed accounts. You have to struggle to get some variation on clients. Due to the high workload, this can also quickly become a boomerang.

Gehaltsverhandlungen
Verbesserungsvorschläge
-Wertschätzenderer Umgang mit Mitarbeitern -V.a.

Externally and at the beginning, the agency appears very open, very modern, very friendly. However, the image is deceptive the longer you are employed. Depending on the team, there might be toxic colleagues and constantly too much work or too few employees. The good employees leave the agency, if they are not already gone, unfortunately. There is a lot of pretence of understanding, but there is often a lack of real support.
Image
In recent years, the new management has brought about a number of changes for the better. However, as far as I know, this has not been reflected in the external image. Despite large international clients, the company is hardly known and is not perceived as an agency for great creative services.
Work-Life-Balance
Working time is from 9-6 (monday-friday), no flexitime. You basically have to take care of a reasonable work-life balance yourself. Although it was regularly pointed out during the pandemic that you shouldn't work too much overtime and that you should take care of yourself, the workload usually doesn't allow you to do otherwise. Overtime is part of good manners and some people look at you askance if you finish work on time. Many, especially creative, colleagues regularly work on weekends. There is no compensation for overtime.
However, the HR and management take care of learning sessions on the topic of mental health and mindfulness.
Karriere/Weiterbildung
Promotions are relatively regular, depending on the team. In several conversations I expressed my wish for further professional training, but they did not work with me on this. There are internal network academies, but only for selected employees. My last information about external training and further education was that you are not supported by the company. However, there are "lunch and learn" sessions regularly covering different topics.
Gehalt/Sozialleistungen
The salary is probably averagely bad for the industry, but there are strong differences in the individual positions. There is also a great deal of secrecy about salaries and a guilty conscience if you want to talk about money with colleagues. Salary negotiations don't exist as long as you don't threaten to quit. However, the salary always comes on time.
Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein
Currently, the agency is consciously working on environmental awareness. For example, water bottles have been replaced by a Quooker system and there are only milk alternatives, instead of cow's milk
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Colleague cohesion is something of a mixed bag. I always felt very welcome and comfortable in my team and also in the agency. I had an open and friendly relationship with my colleagues. However, there is also a lot of behind-the-back talk and elbows are often pulled out when it comes to self-interest.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
As in probably the majority of agencies, the average age of normal colleagues at TBWA, who are not in management positions, and apart from the holding, is around 30. In my direct environment, I could not find any discrimination against older colleagues, but hardly any older colleagues were hired.
Vorgesetztenverhalten
The behaviour of the management board is very friendly and collegial. However, there is often a lack of transparency in decisions, and employees are then presented with a fait accompli. Older team leaders sometimes lack innovative strength, things are often done that way because they have always been done that way. With some superiors, you don't have a chance to discuss things. Young colleagues in particular are cut off or their own opinions are presented as ridiculous or wrong. So there is a big difference with the professional and personal behaviour
Arbeitsbedingungen
First of all, the agency was renovated last year and the offices are evolving from a dusty government office look to an agency look. Nevertheless, there are still some problems: There is hardly any light in the offices except for desk lamps and windows of course. We were given a construction site light in the office so that the cleaners can see something in the evening. The noise level in the open-plan offices is immense, despite soundproofing elements. In theory, there is a meeting room and/or a soundproof telephone booth on each floor, but these are not suitable for longer periods of time and often not available/occupied. The technical equipment is okay, but nothing more. The Macs are not super up-to-date, but they usually run well. If you want a newer model, you have to get on a list first. Screens, keyboards and laptop stands are not available for all employees. Kommunikation
Kommunikation
There are weekly agency meetings on current topics, but there is often a lack of transparency in decisions, and employees are then presented with a fait accompli.
Gleichberechtigung
TBWA Düsseldorf is managed by a woman and there are also many other women on board in all levels. The topic of feminism is also actively discussed in roundtable meetings. Tolerance and openness are very important at TBWA. Network-wide there are also learning sessions on eg black history month, LGBTQ+, etc.
Interessante Aufgaben
It all depends on the team and the title. Depending on that, you can choose your tasks or feel treated like a doormat at some point.

Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich
The team that I worked together with.
Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich
Toxic, cliquey culture, everybody talks bad about everybody on their backs, esp. management. A lot of power games that lead to nowhere and the most clueless, incompetent managers that I’ve ever seen (in all departments: client services, strategy, creation ) . They only produce garbage and are still proud of the garbage they produce. It’s unbelievable how an advertising agency with the label TBWA can lack so much taste to what is good work and what isn’t.
Verbesserungsvorschläge
Change the management, if you want real change. There’s a bunch of incompetent people sitting on the top that have absolutely no clue of how to grow and develop a creatively-led business.

Arbeitsatmosphäre
Offene, tolerante und Wertschätzung Kultur auf Augenhöhe. Wer will wird gefördert und gefordert.
Image
Kollegenzusammenhalt
Grandioses Team, toller Austausch, offen und ehrlich.
