In my experience within the 4 years, no formal development conversations never took place, even after proactively raising the topic multiple times. Promotions and opportunities appear to be driven more by visibility and self-presentation than by a consistent or merit-based development process.

Compensation is clearly below market standards, with a noticeable gap compared to similar roles elsewhere (estimated around 15–20%). This becomes particularly evident when benchmarking against external offers.

Regarding the working atmosphere, I personally consider DCS the most difficult company I have worked for. Blame-shifting was almost a common sport, and the number of colleagues I felt I could genuinely trust was very limited.

The company’s external image was definitely good, especially considering the business it operates in.

Work-Life-Balance

Regarding work–life balance, I would rate DCS positively. Once you made it clear that you were not willing to work beyond regular hours—whether in the office or from home—that boundary was generally understood and respected.

From a professional standpoint, I personally learned very little at DCS, and what I did gain was more a lesson in navigating a challenging environment. Career development opportunities were essentially nonexistent.

I would describe the salary level as mid-to-high, with additional benefits such as the Mobiko mobility bonus, EGYM-Wellpass, and subsidized office lunches.

Regarding environmental and social responsibility, I can give no more than three stars given the company’s business. For example, despite operating in the electric mobility sector, the office offered no possibility to charge an electric car — not even for a fee — in the garage.

Many colleagues were genuinely helpful, but a significant number provided little support — and in some cases displayed outright hostility.

As for older colleagues, DCS is a very young company with a predominantly young workforce. Older employees are essentially those in leadership roles; most other staff members are under 35, if not under 30.

Regarding communication, there were weekly and monthly plenary meetings where management shared updates. However, I often felt these sessions were somewhat superficial — more a way to tick the box of having ‘informed’ the staff than a genuine effort at transparent communication.

As is often the case, most leadership positions were held by men, though I should acknowledge that there were also women present in the decision-making room.

A great place for professionals who want to put their mark on an industry. Demanding work, high standards towards ownership, and a feedback culture that's genuinely fair and not just polite. The teams are diverse, motivated, and spread across strong office locations (Munich/Berlin). This isn't the place if you want a defined lane and predictable days. But if you want to shape how an entire industry develops, there's no better seat.

Unknown to many even within the industry. But those deep into public charging know that DCS is the gold standard.

Work-Life-Balance

4-day week which I don't want to give up anymore. The days can be long and demanding, but the extra day off is real and protected. Pays back in multiples.

Career progression isn't handed to you at DCS - no automatic promotions, salary increases or predefined paths like at a traditional corporate. Development doesn't come top-down either. But those who push and actively ask for opportunities get them. Takes assertiveness, but the door is open.

All in all, fair with some weaknesses here and there. For example, the bAV provider and subsidy could be better - worth checking the details yourself.

On the positive side: mobility subsidies for everyone and strong incentives for getting an EV make the overall package attractive.

Strong sense of togetherness as people genuinely believe in e-mobility and that shared mission carries into how teams support each other. Team events help, but the real test is day-to-day collaboration, and it holds up even against the inefficiencies that come with being a scaleup. Cross-functional work between offices takes more effort, but within teams the cohesion is real.

I can only speak for my direct leads, who genuinely create an atmosphere I can thrive in: trust, freedom to execute, and regular feedback in both directions.

I understand others might see leadership overall as too inexperienced or indecisive. Those criticisms aren't ignored. There's awareness and action being taken. But my own experience has been positive.

Demanding tasks and a fast-changing environment require steady communication. Leadership puts real effort into contextualisation, even if it doesn't always feel that way at first. Two offices with distinct team cultures add complexity. Add in the sheer number of communication channels and it can feel like overflow. Sometimes less would be more, but the intent behind the communication is genuine.

Die meisten Kollegen sind wirklich nette und interessante Menschen. Die Benefits sind auch ziemlich gut.

Keine klare Richtung, keine Substanz hinter den Ideen. DCS kann mit der Konkurrenz technisch und operativ nicht mithalten, das einzige, was das Unternehmen am Leben hÀlt, sind die Shareholder als Hauptkunden.

Ich hörte mal folgendes und es trifft aktuell sehr stark auf die DCS zu:

Aktuell gibt es wenig Innovation und noch weniger Inspiration.

Sie befindet sich derzeit auf dem tiefsten Stand. Angeblich hat das Unternehmen das Breakeven erreicht, und die FĂŒhrungskrĂ€fte haben sicher ihre Boni bekommen. Zur Feier des Erfolges haben sie 10 Prozent der Mitarbeiter entlassen.

Nicht wirklich da, außer der allgemeinen SelbstbeglĂŒckwĂŒnschung und Schulterklopfen wegen der E-MobilitĂ€tsbranche.

Auf und ab. Die meisten Kollegen versuchen, sich zusammenzureißen, aber viele bewerben sich um neue Stellen. Bei einigen Teams verlassen die Mitarbeiter gefĂŒhlt monatlich das Unternehmen, wĂ€hrend viele andere es kaum erwarten können, zu gehen.

Das hĂ€ngt stark vom Team-Lead ab. Der derzeitige Commerce Lead forciert seine Produktideen durch mit Überzeugung, kommuniziert dabei gerne mit kryptischen und unklaren Teamsnachrichten, bei denen man sich den Kopf zerbrechen muss. Echte Produkterfolge sind Seltenheit, da wichtige Ressourcen immer Richtung Shareholder Projekte gehen.

The pressure to deliver immediate revenue jeopardized the work experience. The daily business, at all levels, must be on short-term target. Even if something doesn't make sense on the long run, or even damages the company, it has to be done ASAP anyway. Skilled people have to put their brain aside and deliver what required.
We had a skilled Lead Software Architect, who was leading the IT to a more scalable and stable architecture, but they let him go without a plausible explanation or a replacement.

Outside: End customers usually choose competitors because of the high prices of the DCS. Partners are chronically angry because projects get delivered with big delay.

Inside: after the layoff of external and internal employees, despite a future-proof industry, the image can't be good.

Work-Life-Balance

Good, but in case of important failures, which happens not rarely, you have to work also at night until things get right again.
But if you don't invest in system quality, that's what you get.

There is a yearly budget that usually gets withdrawn in the second half of the year because of cuts to the main budget.

Salary increases has been reduced to the minimum due to the financial situation. The problem is that the company pays high salaries for some people in high positions that is not clear how the bring the company forward. They are only about the internal processes of the company, without actually contributing to projects. A whole well-payed layer is considered to be useless by most of the operative people, and this hurts when your salary increase request gets rejected because of budget shortage.

Good, the business is about EV-charging.

The company has very capable employees, as mentioned before, but also others that I don't understand what they do the whole day. The are some that simply take part at some remote meetings, the camera is turned off and they don't say a word. If you ask them about anything concerning the topic, they show that they simply didn't listen. And they don't even deliver any other kind of work that they could have possibly done during that time.

Unfortunately, managers don't have the technical skills to really assess what's going on. They have to rely on explanations given by someone else and on the base of that they form their own opinion.

DCS is currently on a very exciting journey as we plan to become the first profitible e-mobility service provide out there. In order to reach our goals, we as a business need to make decisions that support our mission, whether it is priorization, allocating resources wisely or changes in general - also in personel.

Increasing efficiency is one of our highest priority and last year we started with re-launching the Total Focused Company framework and can already see positive changes, especially when it comes to reducing number of meetings. Also the rule of two feet was iplemented to encourage our DigiChargers to leave a meeting if they cannot add any value to it.

Our growth framework with annual performance reviews is designed to ensure fair treatment when it comes to salary increases and level adjustment based on actual performance. This framework is being continuously refined to ensure the most effective evaluation.

We understand the importance of learning and development, which is why we allocate a budget that employees can utilize throughout the entire year. As you mentioned, it happened only once in the past, when in the month of October we had to freeze the budget but everyone had 10 months time to spend it wisely. With the beginning of the next year, employees had again access to their L&D budget.

Furthermore, our Leadership Charging Journey was launched last year to support and upskill our leaders and we are already witnessing positive impacts.

As a scale up company we are going though challenges typical to this phase but are sure that with great employees we can tackle them.
