Tax Free Shopping

In many markets, governments waive VAT/GST for goods bought by international travellers to make shopping more appealing to foreign visitors.

Tax Free Shopping offers international shoppers an attractive price reduction, by allowing them to reclaim the VAT after they export the goods. Global Blue manages each tax refund transaction for its retailer partners, so they can forget about the administration and focus on selling. 

Global Blue is the world’s number one tax refund provider and for almost 40 years has worked with a huge range of retailers, including most of the world’s best luxury, fast fashion and department store brands. Operating Tax Free Shopping services in 42 countries globally, Global Blue serves over 305,000 affiliated stores.


Payments & DCC

Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) enables international shoppers to pay at the point of sale or online in their local currency, and provides certainty that exchange rates are competitive.

Global Blue is a worldwide leading provider of DCC solutions, allowing merchants partners in 87,000 outlets around the world to offer foreign customers a simple and cost efficient way to pay in their domestic currency. We offer DCC services with banking and retail partners in 28 countries around the globe.

Global Blue’s DCC solutions, which include a number of POS, ATM and e-commerce services, make it simple for our partners to enjoy the benefits delivered by DCC. Global Blue’s Currency Choice offers clarity, control and confidence to your international customers, while increasing sales and loyalty for your business.


Intelligence & Marketing Services

The unique provider of data analytics and marketing services for merchants to enhance brand awareness and drive more business to store.

Global Blue has the ability to co-build with merchants, effective end-to-end marketing programs based on the data collected throughout the entire Tax Free Shopping journey.

Our unique data analyzing capabilities helps our partners better understand and predict business fluctuations, improve operational performance and provide a detailed overview of their customers’ in-store performance and behaviours.

In addition, we rely on the data collected across 32 million Tax Free Shopping transactions to create a large range of multi-channel marketing products developed to boost brand awareness and drive-to-store business. To engage with Globe Shoppers throughout their entire Tax Free Shopping journey, these marketing solutions include:

Specific shopping and travel digital content published on Global Blue websites or third-party digital platforms

  • Printed SHOP magazines and maps to help partner merchants direct Globe Shoppers right to their store
  • Aspirational advertising billboard campaigns and a network of sponsored Global Blue VIP lounges to help brands promote their key advertising message through to high-spending travellers 
  • An in-house marketing agency and cultural trainings


Public Authorities

Global Blue has a dedicated Public Affairs team with a vast experience in working together with Authorities around the world, providing advice on how to set a brand new Tax Free Shopping scheme or on improving existing ones.

As the global market leader in Tax Free Shopping, working closely with governments and Authorities has been an important part of our business for the last 35 years.

Global Blue’s dedicated team of Public Affairs professionals work hand-in-hand with Customs, Tax and Tourism Authorities around the globe to develop the concept of Tax Free Shopping and support Authorities on the implementation of state of the art refund systems that encourage foreign travelers to shop more within a highly secure and efficient frame.

Over the last years, the Public Affairs team has been focusing on the implementation of end to end digital Tax Free Shopping schemes. During these years, we have provided advice, technology and infrastructure to Governments in more than 15 countries.

Global Blue’s Public Affairs team also works closely with Governments to introduce Tax Free Shopping in countries were the scheme is not currently available. The team has supported and advised tenth of Governments across the Globe in their efforts to implement a tourist refund scheme.

Global Blue support to Authorities can range from providing advice up to delivering turnkey solutions, including the full management and operation of the Tax Free Shopping scheme.

Between the April 2017 to March 2018 period, Global Blue powered 35 million Tax Free Shopping transactions and 25 million Dynamic Currency Conversion transactions worldwide. These totalled €21.8 billion worth of sales in-store.

In addition, thanks to a large range of Intelligence insights, Global Blue helps merchants better understand Globe Shoppers’ spending habits and behaviors. From such unique tools, Global Blue has created a large range of multi-channel marketing products including digital services (14 million visits on our websites), a portfolio of printed and outdoor advertising products (3.2 million SHOP magazines and 4.4 million SHOP maps, a network of VIP lounges) supported by marketing services (in-house marketing agency and cultural trainings) to improve brand awareness.

Global Blue operates in 52 countries, employing 1.900 people worldwide.
