A lot of projects you spent days and weeks on, are never used and land in an archive. Most the time you have to create work where no work is needed, to do something that is not needed, meet with a lot of people about topics that are not important and actually waste a lot of time. Reinvent the wheel actually.
Worst of all. Managers and Teamleaders have no socials skills whatsoever. After some management trainings and seminars, you hear the classic phrases every day in almost every sentence. Everything you say in meetings is put through this pattern, everything you say is questioned, it is very nerve-wracking, in the end no one ever says anything anymore. Instead of sending teamleaders to seminars about management, send them to seminars that teach social skills, human relations, communication etc. instead. I never experienced so much absolute No-Go actions in my life as from my teamleader in Avira.
Your work and success is presented from teamleaders as their own work in management meetings.
We were in the boat together so the colleagues were good.
Not in my department.
If you say what you think you are on a black list and doomed forever. Communication is very restricted and stiff. Everything you say is twisted in that manner that you are classified as: you have no interest in the company.
No personal level, no personal communications. Everything you say must be in the interest of the company. It's like a cult.
Teamleaders do homeoffice or come at 11am to work or go home much too early. On the other side, for some colleagues the homeoffice work was denied and they were verbally sanctioned if they came a bit later to work or wanted to go home earlier to attend a private appointment.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
A lot of colleagues that were in the company 10+ were "fired". They were offered a novice job as an unacceptable alternative, which of course would mean a big step back in the employees career, or to go with a mutual agreement.
Karriere / Weiterbildung
Udemy courses for free, but seminars are mostly only for leading positions. As for career hard to say as you don't know if you will still be at work tomorrow. On one occasion I said it would be great to work for Avira until my retirement. My teamleader laughed at me after I said that with the remark that this is impossible. Go figure.
Gehalt / Sozialleistungen
Wages are definitely below the average for the regular employee.
Free coffee, free drinks, cheap and very good food. Very modern and good looking offices. Dogs are allowed which is a great thing.
Doing overtime and go to webinars at 8pm is expected to be normal, no questions asked if you have time to do so, it's expected to set your private life on a secondary base. If you go off work on time you have to justify that to your teamleader.
I think the image is falling apart, especially if I look back and see how many of my friends and colleagues got fired.
- Exchange the top management as they drifted totally away from the socially-oriented employer Avira was 10 years ago. You get the impression that employees are just numbers on a paper and you have no social or financial security while working for Avira. Today could be your last day at Avira.
