Arbeitsatmosphäre

For the most part, there is a tense working atmosphere that tilts quickly to the bottom, depending on the customer. There is rarely a relaxed working atmosphere at TechConnect.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

The supervisors have a clear line here: "The customer is always king and is always right". Their familiar approach in the company can quickly turn into a perfect "power harassment" triggered by the majority of "monster customers". Often superiors are looking for scapegoats, rather than their own negligence towards the employees or the customer. Also very few supervisors have a profound understanding of a customer project or the technical issues which are involved. As a result, employees may be told the wrong facts.
Additionally, the two-part management transforms the company more and more into a kindergarten, because of legal dispute.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Most of the colleagues are very nice and stick together. Technical knowledge or general problems are often shared. The shared professional grief quickly invites you to make many friends at TechConnect. Unfortunetly there are also colleagues who use the premises and their equipment as their personal dump or are arrogant bugger. The chaos of these minorities intensifies the dissatisfaction within the company.

Interessante Aufgaben

Few customer projects are really interesting or conducive to your own career. Unfortunately, exciting customer projects with new technology topics have been heavily avoided for several years. There is a lack in many places to accept such modern ways: the project buyers in motivation or the management at will. A higher-level career planning at TechConnect is not really possible for such reasons. Most times you are literally on the siding or on constant fire fighting jobs.

Kommunikation

The very familial, flat hierarchy in the company intentionally deceives a benevolent and safe working atmosphere. Communication between supervisors and employees is not always clear and above all not transparent. Important decisions or personnel changes are communicated very late to the affected employees or teams.
Ironically, with this approach, the leadership tries to avoid any unnecessary unrest among the people. Also, it is not always welcome that employees exchange views. Plus supervisor's will not tell you the truth always about working conditions of certain projects.

Most employees, whether young or old or handicapped, are treated fairly.

Dealing with older colleagues is okay within TechConnect.

Karriere / Weiterbildung

A career plan is not possible as a normal employee. Here only pure project work applies as on the assembly line in factory. Very rarely are jobs in project management being re-employed. The training at TechConnect is a joke. It is left to the coworkers to educate themself in rare evening lectures. The quality of these internal trainings and their representatives is often very different.

Gehalt / Sozialleistungen

The pay at TechConnect is only the lower average than other service providers within Bavaria.

Arbeitsbedingungen

Most employees have average work equipment. The room layout is common for a service provider. Rarely you feel like the chickens on the pole. The contracted 40-hour workweek is often turned into a 50-hours or far beyond when a customer shouts loudly at TechConnect's supervisors to whip their employees back in line because they made false promises based on optimistic calculation

The company has only average environmental and social awareness.

Work-Life-Balance

The contractual, declared flextime, as well as the weekly working hours, are adapted to the needs of major customers. Working via the home office is allowed, but only if proven necessity. The company would like to appear socially equitable to the outside world. In lucrative monster projects, little attention is paid to the privacy or health or well-being of employees. Short-term or long-term sickness absence is not uncommon in these working conditions.

The image of the company seems to crumble a bit more each year. Employees growing dissatisfaction is clearly evident from the other reviews and the futile struggle of TechConnect's marketing department, which tries to keep up with very good fake reviews on kununu.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

If you are looking for an ideal work environment with clearly defined job roles, able management and long term career path then TechConnect is unfortunately not the place for you. There are useless stand up meetings in the morning in which half of the team members are physically absent and the other half is absent in terms of motivation and mental presence. No clearly defined roles mean that the people who should be contributing technically are handling managerial tasks and vice versa. People who are involved during recruitment disappear afterwards and there is no one to report any kind of personal or technical issues. This results in non-fulfillment of the promises (related to relocation, amount of travel involved etc) made during the hiring process. This also results in huge amount of people leaving the company in early stages of their employment. Those who stay behind are stuck with a totally non-professional work environment and no possibility of giving suggestions towards improvement of work culture. The amount of mental stress is also huge when you know that your colleagues are getting fired because of not getting any follow up projects and your fate will be the same too.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Mostly the management is unaware of your profile and strengths. This is because the people who are involved in recruiting are different from actual line or project managers. The consequence of this is that employees are made to work in areas where they are unsuitable and in case of termination of a project, no subsequent projects are offered.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

There is some sort of good coordination between colleagues at the same level but the coordination with colleagues at a different level hierarchy either technically or in terms of management is non-existent.

Interessante Aufgaben

It depends on how much effort you are willing to put in yourself to make the tasks interesting. In most of the tasks, since there is no clearly defined aim and goals, the result is loads and loads of documentation with no utility.

Kommunikation

No communication at all regarding the future of ongoing projects and possibilities of moving to another project. Management keeps on giving false hopes to the employees regarding getting new projects until the day you are given a notice and told that your services are no longer wanted.

In case a project with a customer is terminated prematurely, the management and the people responsible for bringing in new projects are unaware of employee profiles. The consequence of this is that the people with software developer or similar technical experience are sent for interviews with customers where a software architect/product owner etc are required and vice versa. It also results in few people not getting a chance to be interviewed for any job roles with a new customer because the responsible people do not know about their profile and strengths.

The situation is especially critical if you are non-German or non-German speaker. In those cases it is very rare that you are assigned to a different project and results in immediate termination.

Gleichberechtigung

If you are non-German or don't speak good enough German then it is very difficult to move up the career ladder. In case a project ends abruptly, preference is given to Germans in terms of placement in new projects.

Karriere / Weiterbildung

If you do not speak German then forget about any sort of career progression. Even with all the technical expertise, there are no clearly defined career paths. With the immediate firing policy in case of non-availability of follow-up projects it is very hard to do long term planning in terms of career with this employer.

Gehalt / Sozialleistungen

Salary is average but a huge percentage of it is in terms of project based bonus. If a project ends and there are no new projects then a big chunk of your salary will disappear. Therefore, it is advisable that during salary negotiations, insist on either having the whole salary as lump sum instead of receiving a chunk of it as project bonus or keep the percentage of project bonus to a minimum.

Work-Life-Balance

If the job role involves travelling then the there is no work-life-balance. You are expected to be willing to travel at any time of month or week and for any duration ranging from days to weeks. Therefore it is especially difficult for employees with families to manage work time and family time. It is not explained during hiring that you will be required to travel and you don't have a choice afterwards.

The general perception is that it is just another supplier for customers who don't care about immediate termination of projects or for the customers who want to work on short term projects without any long term planning.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

  • Improve the communication with employees. Tell them well in advance about company's and projects' future and not just at the eleventh hour. Invest some time in understanding the profile of the employees so that they are placed in roles matching their profiles or for finding suitable follow up projects in case the current projects end.

Pro

The only bright spot I can find is that after working at TechConnect, working at any other work environment or company will only feel like an upgrade.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

  • Ich war im Einsatz für einen Kunden in Bochum, da sind wir - auch an Wochenenden - immer mit dem ICE von München aus hingefahren; ein Alptraum. Das Projekt stand ganz am Anfang, da gab es für die Entwicklungsingenieure fast nichts zu tun. Als Folge davon wurde die Mannschaft mit dem Schreiben sinnloser Write-ups (was da drin stehen soll blieb ungekärt) und Scrum dailys, in denen es meist nichts zu berichten gab, gequält. Die Mannschaft sollte auf 200 Leute aufgebaut werden, was zu dauernden Einstellungen von jungen Indern und Pakistanis führte, die kein Deutsch und kaum Englisch konnten, dafür aber das Gehaltsniveau drückten. Wer ganz unten ankommen und bleiben will, ist hier genau richtig.

Pro

Gute Erreichbarkeit mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln. Die Kantine von KPMG kann mitgenutzt werden.

Contra

Eine hausinterne Bewerbung auf eine höherwertigere Stelle (Team-/Projektleiter) brachte den zuständigen Senior Business Consultant (Chef?) auf die Palme, ich wäre meinen Kollegen in den Rücken gefallen und ob ich mich auch ausser Haus bewerben würde. Kurze Zeit später wurde das Arbeistverhältnis dann gekündigt mit der der Begründung, warm halten und weiter suchen läuft nicht. Man hätte ihm zugetragen, ich würde mich ständig woanders bewerben. Wie dieses Spitzelsystem genau funktioniert, weiss ich bis heute nicht, da ich Bewerbungen nur zu Hause geschrieben und Telefonate nur über mein Handy ohne Zeugen geführt habe.
