Nice colleagues, motivated people at the bottom of the pyramid. I had cordial relationships with almost everyone. Sadly I pointed only 2 starts because when you go to the professional level, you can feel the frustration and discouragement and it can be contagious.
This is the mother of all "evil" in the company. As mentioned in the title of the review, incompetency grows as you go upwards in the structure, no exceptions. Micromanagement, there are executives who think they are still junior SQL analysts and will mess with your our your teams' work. Also, as they are operationally and "micro" focused, there doesn't exist a company-wide strategy to coordinate and create synergies among the whole company. I myself worked in the Operations department, there was something like a strategy, but very, very poorly implemented. One of my interns would have done it better, honestly. No KPIs, no standards. No one is responsible for anything, and if you are, there is no way of measuring if you did a good or a poor job. Therefore, no one gets fired. Its a paradise for underachievers and a nightmare for overachievers.
Also decisions are taken in the most illogical way. I used to work in Operational Excellence, an ad was posted to hired a team lead for that department, 7 requirements were listed in the ad (like experience in Lean Six Sigma, experience in Management Consulting, etc). The hire only had 1 : willingness to travel.
Outside work is ok. People are nice, 95% of them. Some of them, due to a long time working in the company are contaminated and keep complaining, but its not a big issue. I had a couple of "ok" Oktoberfest parties with everyone.
0, Null, Zero. Your work has no impact in anything. You will asked to start projects that will be stopped or if they are finished, the result will never be used. Examples from different colleagues: an Inventory Management concept was created with 6 months of work, never put in practice. A close colleague of mine created also in several months a process management system for Operations, never used. My boss created a strategy it was not properly implemented. POs analyze their products and suggest user stories, they are dismissed.... endless.
Its worse than bad. The departments, I'm speaking for 2018 and 2019, don't talk to each other, there is no strategy in place and even internally, in the departments there is no coordination. Many, many times you will do something and realize shortly afterwards that another person is doing the same, or partially the same or even a different project with opposite goals to yours. The decisions are taken vertically and most of the times its just a "Bauchgefühl" with no logic ground. Then, those poorly taken decisions are simply communicated to the lower paid employees who don't have the chance to raise their voice. Of course, many times will happen that in the middle of the way, the bosses will realize it was bad decision and you will be asked to stop the project you started 2 months ago.
they pride themselves saying that they are international. The truth is that they need the third world because 1. they are not an attractive employer, in fact you come to die professionally here 2. they want cheap labor. Its not my opinion, the % of foreigners decrease as you go up in the structure. Everyone in the executive level is german, male. If you make a average of the salary of the foreigners vs the salary of the germans I'm 100% sure about what you will find.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
Its fine. Everyone is nice.
Karriere / Weiterbildung
0. Zero. Please, don't come here. If you are talented do yourself a favor and keep looking for something else. You will involve as a professional. It will being Lionel Messi or Ronaldo and going to the 3rd Bundesliga and not only that, but you will be sitting on the benches as a substitute player. You will forget how to play. This is a place only for people who either need the money or they have settled for not achieving anything in life.
Gehalt / Sozialleistungen
Salary is normal. They cannot pay less because as they are an unattractive employee with unattractive tasks and 0 professional growth, then, they wouldn't have a single employee.
The new office is dull. Just white walls, no deco, a large open space where some people are having sometimes skype calls and you cannot focus on what you are doing. The laptops are only ok, black Toshibas, 14". The kitchen is small. And the old building, well, its old. I'm bored as soon as I step in.
Umwelt- / Sozialbewusstsein
As a former Operations team member, I saw there was an initiative to tackle the carbon footprint but never saw results. Maybe in the future there will be.
Its normal. As your work has absolutely no impact on the company you can either decide if you want to work a lot and do something brilliant (which will go to the trash bin) or just do the minimum necessary to survive. Either way, nothing will happen, you don't get kicked out, you don't get promoted. (Ok, you get promoted sooometimes, but what does it mean? they just change the name of your role and give you 3% more salary. You will keep doing the same things).
Terrible. Brand Marketing is non existent. Website looks early 2000s, social media does not create any relevant content. I worked there and still don't know what is the brand image that the company should represente. What is the "persona" that symbolizes zooplus? no idea.
- You can read the title of this review and you will know what to do. Cannot be too explicit since Kununu is highly restrictive and doesn't really offer freedom of opinion. Basically you need someone who can lead the company and departments by setting up a strategy and bringing everyone to work towards it. A visionary leader who can communicate, inspire and set priorities. Founders are almost never good company leads.
Incompetence in the higher managerial levels.
